NFL Considers Suspending Broncos LB Joe Mays for Hit on Matt Schaub

When Joe Mays laid the wood to Matt Schaub, immediate reaction around the country speculated that Mays would be fined for the incident. However, ESPN is reporting that the NFL is considering suspending Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays for the hit that left Matt Schaub missing a chunk of ear. For the Broncos, this couldn't be any worse. The linebacker depth is already thin because of DJ Williams being suspended for a DUI earlier in the year.

Joe Mays is not that kind of person, however, and the hit wasn't meant to hurt Matt Schaub.

Hmm I saw the replay and honestly thought while it was hard it was clean. It looked to me like he hit him in the chest and it was the force of the hit that knocked the helmet off but that was just my point of view on it.

I agree, that play was dirty. He launched himself into him and if his goal was to sack him, he could have sacked him by his ribs and got him down easily with his speed. Agree with the NFL on this. Well deserved punishment.

Jared Allen got away with one a few years ago on Schaub, and thankfully pandering only to the top name QBs has stopped and other QBs are getting flags too.

That was a sick hit, he should be suspended. He should've gone a little lower. His head can't be at the same level as the QB and run his face ask into the side of the Schaub's helmet.

No amount of fines or suspensions will help Schaub get his ear back... I wonder if those grow back? No but in all seriousness, this is good news. I wouldn't have been opposed to two or three games either, though.
