CR mock draft 3.0 new first round pick plus trade

Recommended Posts

he has the size, quickness, and the disruptiveness to excel better as a 3-4 DE then a NT.

I like him as a mix of DE/NT. Playing around 40/60 depending on match up. I really like the rest of the mock though. Get a much improved DL, high skill S and lots of potential in the late rounds.

Instead of trading up, why not trade down?  We could get Philips and maybe Jake Fisher, OT, in 2nd round.  Chances are, we get another 3rd round pick and get your pick and possible a RB.  We will have our 4th round pick for another player and still get the rest of your draft.

a NT isnt enough to improve our DL. IMO we need a DE and NT. I believe goldman and philips along with jones would provide a tremendous lift to our DL.

phillips wont last long.  the last 5 teams or so in the first could all use him, i think somebody will grab him, possibly us

phillips is a tough one to evaluate. he can def be gone in the first, but I can also see him falling into the second round

If he did, which he doesn't, he would have to play 3 tech, where Jones is already. If one of them went to 5 tech, there would be zero poss rush from the d line.

He has the physical ability to be disruptive as a 3 tech on pass rush downs but pass rush technique is lacking....he tends to try to bat at balls a bit to much and has to learn how to use his hands better...But he has the mobility and enough speed for his size to shoot gaps...Don't think he will be great at it but I think he can develop and give you a couple sacks per year from the 3 tech once he developed his pass rush

the only real difference between the 3 and 5 is what gap your shooting

What I like:  Shaw and Ryan in the 3rd and 5th.  Very realistic places in the draft for us to address those positions and players that I like.

What I don't like: this is another one of those mocks that have us hitting the D-Line early and the CBs later.  I think it needs to go the opposite.  The DL already has some NT-like big guys that the staff likes: Chapman, Kerr, Hughes, and Jones.  Getting two more young NTs won't help the team much IMHO.  I see a CB and an OT as our top two picks (in either order), with the S, ILB, and DL (more of a 310 lb Langford type) being the mid round picks...

Isn't Goldman a NT as well?  We can draft in 3rd round or later a DE.  We have 2 starters at DE in Art and Langford, so all we need is depth, IMO.

Philips could go before us, and we don't have a say in it.

After us, well Packers are at 30.  They could use a ILB, TE, or a CB.  IMO, Philips will not be chosen there.

Next is the Saints at 31.  They could use a TE, a couple of CBs, a Safety (depends on FA), or a DE.  Again, IMO, Philips will not be picked there.

Pick 32 belongs to the Patriots.  Nobody but Belichick knows who he is going to draft.  This is where you could be right about Philips.  Why would you get rid of Wilfork just to draft another player predicted to be just like him.  If Goldman is there, IMO, that would be a better pick.  JMO, but who knows.

Depending on who we trade with (how high in 2nd round), will help on our shot at Philips in the 2nd round.

I will not be surprised by some one wanting ours, Denver's, or New Orleans' pick at the end of 1st round.  I hope it is us and Mr. Grigson's draft board is Flexible to take it.  We can get help in the 2nd as in the bottom of the 1st.

DT not a NT. my idea is to move him to a 3-4 DE

I have seen him as either, depending on what draft site you are looking at.

I don't want another 1st round project of converting a player from one position to another.  In all the film I have seen on Goldman, he hasn't played DE.  Would mean converting him.

IMO, why not draft a DE later in the draft.

Armstead is too raw for a 1st round pick.  IMO, he is a project player and we need an impact player.  In other words, in the 1st round, we need a day 1 starter, JMO.

raw yes, but has a lot of athleticism and potential. reminds me of jason taylor

Reminds me of Bjorn Werner.  If Armstead is taken in the 1st round, IMO, he will be a bust.  Not because of his eventual playing, but because of where he was drafted.  Only a few teams could take Armstead and be able draft him and not worry about how long it takes him to develope.  As I have stated before, 1st round should be an impact/day 1 starter for most teams.

Yes the Broncos might take him, but as I said, we have no say in that.

Green Bay could, but, IMO, they will go ILB.  They want to get Bloodline back outside.

Seattle has nothing to do with this, as they gave New Orleans their 1st round pick for Jimmy Graham.  New Orleans have to many other needs.

Who knows what Belichick is going to do, but I don't see him going after Philips.  I could be wrong.

He's bigger faster and way more athletic. He's nothing like werner

He is a rawer prospect.  Armstead is a project and will need about 3 years to be ready to start, just like Werner.  We don't need another miss in the 1st round again.

He is not rawer. He has a lot more skillsets then werner

yeah i forgot about that.  denver, colts and especially NE could take him at the bottom of the first. if we want one of the top dline prospects we better take them at 29
