Who Wins "The Stare Down"?

Lamar I think.  There is no reason for him to change his stance leading up to the draft.  A team could always sign him to an offer sheet after the draft.  If nothing materializes he has plenty of time to sign the tag if he chooses.  The Ravens will probably have to think of a backup plan for Lamar if he doesn’t sign the tag or a new contract before the draft.  Forcing them to probably consider drafting a quarterback where they wouldn’t otherwise.   Not the ideal spot to be in.

Ravens.  There is no reason tp pay a bunch of guaranteed money to somebody they don't want to pay.  Especially when Lamar's success is based upon Harbaugh coaching and the FO drafting a team around him to enhance is QBing abilities.

They'll just move on with another QB from the draft this year or next.  Endure some mediocre seasons rather than setting the roister back by paying one guy too much relative to what he contributes.

Depends what is meant by "win" ?

If "winning" is Lamar getting his fully guaranteed deal and the Ravens caving or even if Lamar winning is him matching Watson's guaranteed money on a longer contract that is not fully guaranteed, then I would say there is like a 1% chance or less that Lamar wins. So in that regard the Ravens win.

In order for the Ravens to truly win though, they need to sign Lamar long term. Anything less sets that franchise back a ton.

So my gut says "win-win" with the Ravens and Lamar eventually working off of Hurts' deal and signing something similar. Maybe something that makes Lamar on paper the highest paid QB for Avg Annual Salary and something that guarantees him the second most money in history behind only Watson.

That would still be a win for the Ravens keeping him in the "traditional" type of QB contract and it also would be a win for Lamar securing top-2 type of money for a guy who has been hurt to finish the last couple of years.

I concur.

Lamar. He's getting a boatload of cash from someone

He's been available for quite a while and the Ravens haven't received a single call from any other NFL team.  For him to sign - ANYWHERE - he's going to have to reduce his $$ requirements.

We'll see, but in the worst case scenario he gets $32M from the franchise tag

Maybe but a lot can still happen between now and the end of the draft.  If the Colts don’t draft a quarterback with the 4th pick the odds of Lamar signing with the Colts go through the roof.  An interesting Thursday night coming up.

Jackson does not have to pay the 3% to an agent. I can't believe the Ravens caved. Can't wait to see what the Chiefs will have to shell out for Mahomes then there is Cincy, Buffalo, LA and on and on and on.  This could get real crazy real fast.

Mahomes just signed a big extension.   Allen is signed through 2029.  LA won't give Stafford another big contract.   Burrows and Herbert are gonna get paid big though if they keep playing the way they have

The Cleveland Browns have slipped from the most stupid organization to the second stupidest one as Baltimore takes over the top spot. Bitcoins anyone?

Baltimore is one of the best run organizations in football.   They didn’t cave.   They always wanted to re-sign Alexander.   What they didn’t want to do is give him a FULLY GUARANTEED CONTRACT.  And they didn’t.

The side that caved the most was Lamar.   He gets a $260m deal but only $180m is fully guaranteed.   Does it look like he got what he demanded?

There was compromise on both sides.  It’s called win-win.   Everyone is happy.

Except you.

Huh? What's wrong with what Baltimore did here? Did you misunderstand the details of the contract?
