General Defense Comments
Some good, some bad. We let Henry go for his first 100+ game this season. Again, Tannehill wasn't great, but efficient. 17-21 and 2/0. Same story vs TN, just different day... Indy DL was about the same comparable vs TN DL... And TN's DL is good. Both teams had 3 sacks, and both had 5 QBHs... LB is getting interesting (below)... Weakest DB link continues to be Moore.

General Group Comments

  • DL - 3 sacks. Not bad. Paye/Grove/Dayo.... Very nice day for Dayo.
  • LB -Oke sat when Leonard played? Will it be a Leonard/Franklin combo when Leonard returns? Surprised nobody created thread lol... Speed still grading great.
  • CB - Gilmore is a consistent stud. Rodgers playing great again. Facyson still solid. Moore is even worse.
  • S - McLeod had another good week. Thomas fell back to earth. I'd prefer go with a 50/50 FS competition with Cross/Thomas until Blackmon returns.

Love to see Paye coming along in his second year.  Great to see the rest of the D Line step up also.  Besides Ngakueo, I mean what the heck.  If him and Paye were playing well together, our defense might even be better.

yeah, not sure what’s going on at LB but I’m not concerned.  Just need to get Leonard healthy and back into the rotation.

Moore supposed to be the best nickel CB in the league and has been playing SORRY.  AND in a contract year.  That pro bowl selection might’ve done him more harm than good.  Seems like teams are targeting him to see if that pro bowl selection was legit.  So far, looking like it’s not.

I think it was more of a continuity thing.

They knew Leonard was only going to play limited stats. Oke has been playing in that spot. Wanted to keep Franklin in his role.

Like you said, I don't know why though? Literally all tackling stats, gets abused in coverage, commits to many penalties.

I like the guy, but SPT captain is his gig, even more so when you have a guy that needs more snaps, playing like this.

He has 1 year left after this year. $7.5m non guaranteed

After complaining about contract, he was essentially playing fpr an extension/raise.

Failed mightily.

Not even kidding when I say I would try tp move him by the deadline to the Bears. Before his stock drops any more than in it has right now.

I don't understand "continuity" if the plan is to Leonard and Oke be starters.

Leonard played 30%, so that's a good amount. And he got injured early IIRC. Meaning the plan was likely 60%+, unless they were going to sit him 2H anyway... Wouldn't make sense to me.

And Oke is arguably the best cover LB we have. And Franklin is the worst. Oke has a decent missed tackle % this season. IIRC, less missed Ts than Franklin. IDK, more confusion.

The depth chart, is Leonard MIKE, Oke WILL, and Franklin SAM, at least in Gus's scheme. I've seen Oke playing inside and outside this year. So more confusion. Not it really matters if we're 4-2-5 anyway. Both (in 2 LB) can flex.

Props to Ballard for holding the line with Moore.

IMO, no more 100% snaps for him. Limit him to NB snaps.

And perhaps try Rodgers at NB.

Jeudy might torch Moore on Thursday night.

I’d like to see Dayo get more snaps, particularly on early downs instead of Ngakoue. Ngakoue for me is just a speed rusher on passing situations. I’d actually prefer to see Dayo and Ngakoue’s snap percentage flipped, don’t care if Ngakoue is being paid more.

Really like Paye’s development, he is emerging now as a very good starting defensive end in this league. A good pick by Ballard.

Moore has been so disappointing. A part of me feels like he has lost his edge as a pro. He used to fly around and be a excellent playmaker for us (INTs, PBUs, corner blitz sacks, etc.) Now he is just a liability. You’d think the coaching staff is near breaking point, but they still keep him out there.

Getting pretty excited about the prospects of Paye and Dayo.

What happened to Kenny Moore. Anybody else remember when we used to blitz him. It was lucks last year I Believe. I think we see his usage decrease soon.

Isiah Rodgers is going to go to a new team after next year and be a star.

I like our defense. I think it’s really solid.

Kenny has blitzed more than any other DBs, and is 4th on team.

But 0% pressure rate

Continuity was the wrong word.

What I was trying to put across was, they knew Leonard was playing limited snaps, Oke has been playing Leonards role in base, so rather than it affect 3 LBs roles, it just made it affect 2 LBs this way.

Franklin could just play his normal role and not have to worry about it effecting him also. He has enough effecting him already. Just go play.

Yeah, Oke and Leonard will be playing together when full go.

Not even saying I agree with what I just said, as far as ideology, just that I could see it being a reason for them doing so.

  • The defense has been pretty solid.  A proper RDE would allow this defense to be very solid.  Still missing that important piece.  IOW, have all of the other pieces except that one piece that takes the most capital to get.....and the D will have a ceiling until then.
  • Will Leonard have that much more of an impact at MIKE than the cheapo guys we are playing there?  Hmmm.
  • Run defense took a step back, IMO, but the grades from week to week don't really show it.
  • No AJ Brown or equivalent, and the DBs had a great/better game.  Go figure.
  • Rogers,  Yay!
  • Moore.  Nay!
  • Facyson. Okay

From a stat standpoint looks like my earlier projection might be more truth and bench Moore and start Domann.  Domann played that NB spot well for the Huskers.

Why isn’t Ngakoue our 3rd stringer?

Seems a lot of poor coaching decisions and team politics.  No wonder so many calling for a major change.

Strange to me.

Regardless, Gus has definitely uses LBs (so far) differently than Flus though.

Can wait to see final LB product. Interested.
