Are you suggesting we need to reevaluate our safety position? I don't agree. Melvin showed all the ability of CB1 and desir was very solid. Unfortunately we can't get past injury bug and we haven't for years.

I'm saying the only decent safety that's not injured is Geathers, and he has a pretty extensive injury history. I like him and Hooker, they could probably be a really good tandem, if healthy, but I don't think it's smart to rely on them.

You say we can't get past the injury bug; that's why I'm talking about building a roster with reliable depth. We have a ton of question marks in the secondary right now. That's why I disagree with the classification of the secondary as a position of strength, there are too many unknowns. You seem to be expecting those unknowns to be fully resolved by the start of the season, and that's more optimistic than I think the Colts should be during the offseason.

And that's without mentioning that we don't know what Quincy Wilson is yet, Nate Hairston struggled at times, and the best veteran corner on the team probably played the best season of his career and might leave in free agency. And then there's the possibility that Melvin played way over his head for two months and never performs that well again.

And I just picked the secondary as an example. The same is true of the DL, and we all know the uncertainty involving Luck.

I don't think it would be wise to view any of our position groups as strengths, outside of specialists. Every group needs upgrades, IMO, and this offseason is the time to go out and get them.

Maybe he just said its a position of strength because its stronger than every other position on the team with exception of DL, if anything i would disagree with QB being a position of strength given that i dont think anybody knows exactly how Luck is going to look. Realistically if we re-sign Desir and Melvin its probably one of three positions we can go into next season without making much changes. You can only do so much in one offseason.

Some positions need to be more focused, but the positions I listed atleast have value towards them compared to those that were listed as need improvement or help. We can survive with what we have as strengths based on how they played. Played over his head or not, Melvin proved his value and you can only hope hairston and Wilson will get better.

We'll find out about luck soon. It'll be April before you know it.

Tyler Eifert slides in nicely

And you're going off of a lot of potential here. Wilson imo is a #2 corner, Hairston in the slot, Hooker at FS. We're lacking a stud #1 CB still

Eifert is constantly hurt. No thanks. Colts already have enough people on IR

Melvin balled out this year. He could fill that #1 spot. Wilson and Desir as #2 and quality backup.

I'm not opposed to getting another CB, but O-Line (RT and Guard), ILB, and OLB still needs addressed.

Melvin isn't someone you build your secondary around

The Colts had a stud at ILB in Jerrell Freeman and Grigson let him walk.

That's funny that you think Jerrell Freeman was a stud ILB.  Freeman was a good LB that had not made it through an entire season since 2013, was IR'f in 2017 in additional to having a 10 game PED suspension of which he will have to serve 2 games in 2018.

There are plenty of reason to bash Grigson... not signing Freeman to a new contract is not really one of them.

Melvin, Desir, Wilson, & Hairston is a very solid group of CBs IMO. That's not to say I wouldn't like to add another body or 2, be it as a starter or for depth, but I wouldn't necessarily call corner a "need" like I would ILB or EDGE.
