One final Colts Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

I know I said the last one was the finale (it basically is, this one is a difference criteria), but I'm doing another.

This one is what I think is going to happen. Not what I hope/want to happen. That being said...

Round 1 pick 29 - Colts select Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M.

Ogbuehi would likely go higher without the injury concerns (torn ACL). He's a freak athlete (reportedly ran a 4.7) and incredibly strong. Ogbuehi is one of the more likely guys to every reach Tyron Smith level ability on the edge. If you believe some credible reports (Lance Zeirlen), Ogbhuei is a lock for the first round and the Colts are as likely a spot as any. Assuming he's cleared for the season, there should be no reason he can't start at RT day 1. And if by some craziness Costanzo walks next off-season, he can play LT as well.

Trade!

Colts trade pick 61 and 93 to the 49ers for Pick 46.

Round 2 pick 46 - Colts select Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana

I'm sure most of you know how I feel about Coleman. I'll spare you my analysis and just say that the Colts seem to like Coleman more than most backs in the draft. They jump the Dolphins to ensure they get him.

Round 4 pick 128 - Ladarious Gunter, CB, Miami

Gunter is the biggest corner in the draft and we know how Grigson and Pagano love size at the cornerback position. Gunter isn't very athletic, but he is a strong player with upside in a press scheme.

Round 5 pick 165 - Durrell Eskridge, FS, Syracuse

A second pick in a row used on a large DB. Eskridge is a huge safety with versatility.

Round 6 pick 205 - Ben Heeney, LB, Kansas

Fast, small LB who misses a ton of tackles. If Freeman leaves next season, it will be like he never left.

Round 6 pick 207 - Terry Williams, NT, ECU

Williams is a big-bodied space eater with playmaking potential. I see no reason he couldn't contribute in a rotation with Chapman this season.

Round 7 pick 244 - Jamison Crowder, WR, Duke

Crowder suffers from being small and unathletic. Thankfully, he's still p good. Helps with depth and is a PS option.

Round 7 pick 255 - Jean Sifrin, TE, UMass.

This would be such a Grigson pick. A guy who looks for talent wherever he can find it draft a 27 year old rookie. Sifrin is good in his own right and will contribute when we lose one of our TEs to FA next season.

I hope this is not how things shake out.

Why trade up for a RB in a draft full of RB's?

I don't get the negative comment thing either but hey I don't get the Coleman love so maybe I am just missing it all together.

I really hope this is NOT what happens in the draft for the Colts. Most of your picks are reaches. Especially your 1st round pick. Ereck Flowers and Jake Fisher would be better RT selections in round 1 and at least 1 will be available.

Fisher isn't a scheme fit and I'm not convinced Flowers is a tackle in the pros. If Ogbuehi's medical checks out I see no reason he shouldn't be a first round choice.

I have no problem with him in the 1st if his medical checks out (which it would if we were taking him in the first to begin with)

Right.

I don't like what he showed as an LT, but could be a very, very good RT.

Flowers is a plug and play RT in the NFL. Rick Venturi whose opinion I value more than yours, no offense, thinks Flowers is a mauler at RT which is just what the Colts need given their power blocking scheme.

Which is fine, until you call a pass play and gets Luck killed because of his lack of lateral agility and leverage.

Mike Mayock, whose opinion I value more than Venturi's, said Flowers is going to be a holding machine because of his lack of leverage.

Just comparing the two, Flowers looks to be the more safe pick with higher upside.

I think he has the lateral agility but his footwork is all over the place, One play its good, The next couple its garbage. I think his primary position should be RG with ability to play RT/LT with improved footwork, Eli Harold and Max Valles both gave him hell with there speed, He also leans forward sometimes (often) in pass protection

Who knows what will happen.

But.... If the Colts truly want Coleman....Many sources say they do........ They will have to take him with their number 1

(Thats way too early IMHO) Or, they will have to trade some later picks to get back to the mid second round where

many, if not most, people see him going.

He will be gone before our pick in round two.

I saw one article, where a writer said that trading to the mid second round and picking up Coleman was an option. An option that very well may happen..........

If you do the point value, you have to give up a few picks to move there........

If you keep your current number 1 and 2, you need a major number of picks to trade to get to the mid 2nd round.

We could also do a trade and move back from 1, to the early round 2. to give us back some of the later picks.

I believe that there is tremendous value to be had in the 2nd round. I would LOVE to have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds.

It would cost us (3-4 picks) or most of the rest of the draft..... BUT..... we could very well end up with 3 tremendous, immediate contributors

If we stay where we are, the odds are that the 5 picks we have in rounds 3-7 are going to be depth or camp fodder anyway

We would also have the UDFA portion as well to get depth.

As well as FA that will happen after June.

I personally think Coleman will be a star in the NFL.

I can only imagine if a team tries to run a nickle or a dime package against him. (He NEVER saw that in college)

Its something the Colts see every week

....... we will all find out in 2 days.

    • Ignoring anything to do with accuracy, level of play, etc., just based on his injury history through 8 games, it's highly unlikely he will be our QB in a few years.  It's a catch 22 with him.  If you don't utilize his legs, it will be very difficult to win with him.  If you do utilize his legs, it will be very difficult to keep him on the field.  I've come to the conclusion that his size is not necessarily a benefit.  The collisions are harder.  He goes to the ground harder.  You don't see some of the gentle drops and rolls you see with Lamar Jackson.     The fact that he's also tied to a front office that might be counting their days doesn't help either.
    • Id say avoid drafting or taking players from your team that you’re a fan of. I’m an avid fantasy guy and also a sports bettor. I literally will avoid taking any Colts players In fantasy and also during the week in fantasy football I avoid taking the props of the players I’m playing against. I never want to wish bad on anyone so for that very reason I avoid those guys. For me personally it has helped tremendously, I can still enjoy the game without bias.
    • I will just say this about the comparisons between Luck and AR.  And even Manning.   First, as far as overall talent?  I think AR has more talent than Andrew.  And I say that as the biggest Luck fan that there is.  I loved that guy.  But he always reminded me of a Manning wannabe.  Someone who had more pure talent.  Who was very smart.  But I never ever got the feeling that he wanted to win and put in the hours that Manning did.  And I think that was proven when he retired so early.  Manning was like an AI robot who studied 23 hours a day.  Just a huge will to win.    But what Luck had was pain tolerance, drive and overall ability due to his teaching since he was a kid...and his will to do what is right for the team.    IMO that was 100% MORE than AR's is right now.  Not even close.    If only you could clone a combo between Manning and his smarts, Luck and his pain tolerance, and AR and his pure athletic ability.    I am sorry but unless AR is the unluckiest person in the history of the NFL, NO ONE gets hurt this much.  He is a wreck.  Heck I remember in his first pre season game last year he ran out of bounds and started to limp.  Literally his very first hit ever.  Right then I said to myself "uh oh".  And then he has not finished what......4 of his all time starts?  Out of 8?  I mean....that is not normal QB behavior.  He seems to get hurt on almost every hit he takes.    Make that make sense.    It is very VERY odd to say the least.   I want AR to do well because he seems like a good guy and he has all the talent in the world  But after this last game and his words after? For lack of a better word I don't think he has any ability at all to do 2 things.     One....protect himself.   Two.....take a hit and feel pain without it being the end of the world.  He seems to have no pain tolerance whatsoever.  Which is fine.  Just don't be an NFL Qb as a result.
    • I'm not creating anything.  Till AR can stay on the field it's Flacco that has to be tough.
    • I understand that but till AR shows he can stay on the field, Flacco has to be the man. It's that simple.
