Mock Draftable chart (as an OLB): http://mockdraftable.com/player/4916/position/19/

Games watched: vs Wisconsin, vs USC, vs Minnesota

The Good:

Great length. He'll be one of the taller OLBs in the NFL. Long arms as well.

Very good athlete. Ran a 4.64 at the combine with a 1.60 10-yard split. (Continues the trend of ultra fast edge rushers)

Explosive change of direction and lateral agility. He'll be able to play in coverage at the next level IMO.

Flexible around the edge.

Can set up an inside move as good as anyone in this class.

Surprising functional strength for such a skinny player.  Can hold his own at the point of attack against most TEs.

Active hands. Uses them to create leverage.

Experience as a stand-up rusher in addition to him playing the majority of his time with his hand in the dirt. Also rushed a few times from the ILB position.

The Bad:

Can't tell if his get-off at the line is inconsistent, or he was coached to play slower at the snap. If I had to guess, it's just him. You'll see a lot of plays like this:

ex. http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=254007&gif=OfficialJauntyGroundbeetle [DEat the top of the screen in 3-point stance]

Very skinny. Only 235 lbs.

While he has good functional strength for a player his size, it's not good overall. Combined with his weight, and you have to wonder how he'll hold up in the run game as a pro.

He's going to be a huge project in the pros. More athlete than football player IMO. Still needs a lot of technical work with his pass rush moves. Takes a bunch of wasted steps.

Not a powerful tackler. More of a drag down guy.

He falls down a lot. Leads me to question his balance.

Conclusion:

Gregory is being projected as a high-draft pick solely off of his athletic ability. He's Dion Jordan. If you think your coaching staff has the ability to develop him then you'll get a hell of a player. I think in addition to his obvious pass rush potential, Gregory also has the athletic ability to play in coverage and not be a liability. Gregory is a 3-4 rush linebacker at the next level and one that will take a while to become a good player IMO.

Projected Round: 1st

NFL Comparison: Dion Jordan, Miami

I cant seem to find where 10 yard splits are listed anywhere, I'd literally have to go back and watch every 40 on DVR of the Combine

Over rated by mocks. He also completely disappeared in big games. (maybe not wanting to risk injury) Mocks have him going in the top 5. Should be no higher than 20.

Seems to built a lot like our own Jonathan Newsome, who is also quick but lacks functional strength.

Just wondering how the college film and combine numbers would compare the two. I'm sure Gregory is better, but Top 5 vs fifth round?...I'll bet their numbers are closer than the disparity that the draft positions suggest.

he was explosive at the snap as a junior and i thought he would be a easy top 5 pick. this year, he wasn't the same. he was injured at the beginning of the year and maybe never really got back to 100%. he also dropped into coverage a lot more this year. i have no way of knowing the injury situation, but if for some reason he gets to the colts because of the off senior year, i would take him in the 1st. his play this past year does concern me though if i had a high pick, and could be why he drops.

Jesus. ^^^

I said Barkevious Mingo (who got moved to ILB last season). Jordan is probably a better comparison, but I think he was a better pass rusher than Gregory.

You have that backwards. Jordan had physical potential, but wasn't an elite rusher. He was a really well rounded OLB with a high ceiling. Miami has completely misused him.
