 I'm looking at what's out there at safety and not sure there's a solid starter that fits what we need. Only 2 centers plus Mack that make sense and it could be possible they led Costa's agent to believe signing a top center was not a high priority. Could be why he signed here for less than Rietz is getting in 2014.

 

Maybe a guard is possible as there are a couple decent ones still ou there. But how about signing Wilfork to team up with Chapman at NT ?

I think we'll add a Center like Montgomery after Grigs finds out we cant get Mack. Then I think we'll draft a Safety in the 2nd, and either an OLB or CB in the 3rd. Personally I would like to see us sign Montgomery, and Anthony Spencer on a one year deal. The more I think about it, I don't see Wolfork leaving New England.

haha, A Luxury item??? Are you serious? Yeah, he'd be extremely expensive and may potentially not be worth the investment, but he is far from a luxury item when our center situation is clearly iffy at best. I hope Costa turns out to be really good and since he doesn't have a long history about him, it's hard to know exactly what were getting with him, but it would be nice if he was able to do eactly what we need from him.

I was hoping they would go after EDS or Brian De la Puenta....... Seems like they are going to miss out on them. :( I think one of them would have made a significant impact. I don't think they will get Mack.

Well EDS is already off the market and I'm not sold on BDLP. I'd rather get Montgomery(that the skins just released) for a short 2 yr. deal over BDLP.

We spent a 3rd round pick on a Center last season... He better be ready.

Yeah I heard about Montgomery being released from the Skins. I wonder if they will look into that option. I don't know too much about him overall. Heck, maybe they will just let Holmes and Costa duke it out, no clue.

      Pass rush.     That is the key.  Control the line.  Make him make plays.  Make him uncomfortable.  Hey, if he Stroud beats us with his talent and we’re making him complete these great plays, then chalk it up to the game.  But we can’t allow him (and any other qb) to be comfortable and pick us apart.     I hope we see our front 4 provide that pressure because that will make everything else much easier.  I honestly believe we have the corners for our scheme in Moore, Brents, and jones.  But we don’t have the pressure.  Or the FS unfortunately.

      Agreed.  After this last off season, I kind of give Ballard a pass on taking long to find a certified DE (if Latu pans out).  Like QBs, they don’t grow on trees.  You either have to draft one high, get lucky with one in the draft, or sign one in FA for loads of cash.  All I can ask for him as GM to do is try.  He hasn’t been perfect by any means but at least he’s tried with the DE position specifically.   i also think Shane being here has changed his thinking.  Before, Ballard might’ve went with Turner due to the higher upside.  But maybe Shane differs and wants proven players.     Either way, I’m glad we possibly have our stud at a premium position for the next 5 years at a cheap rate.     And gotta thank the Falcons for us landing Latu.  Lol

      Sure, but I know you're smart enough to get the gist of this post - a potent offense is more important than a good defense.     Today's NFL favors the O in the rule book and encourages scoring.  D's have to hang in there and most play it safe.   Of course, it's simple, of course it's not easy to have an elite O, and of course it doesn't always lead to wins.  But, in my opinion, it's the way a GM should build a team.  (Yes, I know about the Manning years.  That's another conversation)
