Antoine Bethea is an important member of our defensive backfield - and - his consistency has NOT been compromised by his age.

 

Additionally - he is a valuable veteran presence in our locker room and community !!

I think the switch from the 2 deep zone scheme hurt Bethea's game. I think he is better suited for that scheme but will still be a solid safety for a couple more years if we decided to stick with him. But I honestly don't think we are going to.

He's a liability in coverage and aging.  We already have a run support safety in Landry who's also younger.  

 

Part of our problem I think is we have 2 run stopping safeties and both are liabilities in coverage.  Get someone younger but also someone who can cover better.  Even if he's not quite the run stopper that Bethea is.

That's why we need to target Byrd he would make a HUGE impact on our D
