I'm Beginning To Like Painter As Manning's Permanent Backup

I never thought I'd say this but I'm beginning to like Painter as Manning's backup as long as Manning is back next year. He's starting to show me some real talent and swagger. He showed pocket presence, he ran well. He made good judgements about their defense. He did everything he could to put that game on his back. I'm not saying he should be our franchise QB when Peyton is gone but he's going to develop by the end of this year into a solid backup. We just need the oline to keep him upright long enough to throw the ball.

i agree with this, the colts need to keep their QB upright so he can make the right reads and get the ball to the receiver... painter is a good QB but the Oline wasnt helping him at all today... its always something with this team... either its the defense or the special teams or the offense.

I was about to say the same thing. Were you even watching this game OP? The game last week by chance? His accuracy is non-existent. He makes no read progressions, just stares down his receiver and tries to force it in anyway, or throws it way ahead or behind them. There's a reason he does nothing but hold a clipboard all season when Peyton is healthy, and it's showing.

He was hardly touched in the second half and they still struggled to even score ONE touchdown. He threw the ball 45 times and they only managed 10 points. That's the very definition of terrible.

I agree that he has a problem staring down his receiver. But I think the inaccuracy is due mainly to being hurried by his o-line. Plus I think he's improving. He showed better presence today than I've seen.

before I get run out of town I want to clarify AGAIN that I'm not saying he's a great qb. Or that he should be a starter in the NFL. Just that BY THE END OF THE YEAR I think he'll develop into a solid backup. I see competitiveness, fire, talent and improvement.

And i see a below average back up qb,that is horrible.

This team simply lacks talent, combine the with a staff the "refuses" to switch things up and you have the Colts ... minus Peyton.

I for one and just tired of the "we do what we do" ... they did what they did because Manning was on the roster.

I just can't believe this team is so poor. If I were Manning I would not want to spend the last few years of my career with this train wreck of a team. Just think what the Niners would look like with Manning?

Painter is FAR from the problem. He has actually played very well. It is the rest of the team and their 6 former All Pro's that have dropped the ball.... or just quit?.. or just are simply not that good?

Curtis has been a bright spot, that our stellar staff did not even know about.

This franchise has been exposed at every level.

Did you see the coverage the titans had on the receivers?... i think some of the blame has to go on the receivers a bit yes painter was inaccurate on some throws but who would have though wayne would have been handled by a avg QB?.... Guess what if peyton was back there peyton would have gotten sacked so many times... there are MUCH bigger problems than painter... ppl are super emo here.. one day they are behind him the other they are calling him terrible.

With this Offensive Line I'm not sure to many backups are going to do much better.

He is part of the problem that can not be denied,i saw a back up qb for the rams pull a upset over the saints today.Dropped balls , many of them are not good throws.IHow can there be a brightspot when your 0-8?

Idk what you guys want from a backup QB. Hes not Manning. This oline is always bad. You want him to lead this team to wins with a crappy coaching staff and oline and defense when only one Qb can do that. No backup QB in this league could lead this team to a win with what Painter has.

How about one win?is that so much to ask?

Lol right now as humans you know some of the guys in the FO are second guessing about the past picks they have made... the colts really need to start bringing in some quality Defensive players and Offensive Lineman players in.. getting your players from UDFA's and low end picks just dont do cut it... some of the colts starters would just be body fillers on most teams rosters.

Agreed. We need some early round Defensive picks and some good FA's if we want to get Manning back to a SB. Painter isn't our problem and Luck is not our solution. Luck couldn't win with this team. I don't know who could. I think we'd have trouble making the playoffs even if Manning had been healthy this year.

Really, peyton had made it 9 straight years, the man would of made it 10.
