Freeney's price reportedly gone down to something, 'similar to Osi Umenyiora's 4.5 million per season after Broncos inked Phillips

When the Denver Broncos began negotiations with the free agent defensive end last month, Freeney came in wanting $8 million for his services. Denver negotiated him closer to $6 million and then eventually pulled the plug

Abraham as well (who wanted $12 million plus and felt his floor (which he was over performing) was $5 million)

Unbeknownst to the public at the time was the fact Shaun Phillips was also negotiating with Denver.

As we are all well aware Phillips has signed with the Broncos (for $1 million) and Freeney's price has reportedly gone down to something, 'similar to Osi Umenyiora's deal'. Umenyiora is getting $4.5 million per season, which is bargain basement compared to where Freeney started.

So, it appears as if this story is not over yet. The Broncos could loop back in and it appears that Freeney is willing to play ball.

Now, is there any room for him?

I would like to see Freeney with Denver.  It would probably be his best shot at winning another Super Bowl

with freeney , then on passing downs u dont need  as 1 curent plan I read for Philips to drop into DE spot from LB spot where he will be  on non passing downs with ayers as de

Having Freeney as DE & Phillips as lb , further increases  teams guessing who does the rushing and  from what formation  , as wolfe, Williams & Miler are all possiblities or a MLB may come in, can really disguise coverages and overload sides  etc etc

as previously noted in topic of signing phiilips these are all possibilities

but ayers will be RDE  & phhilips Rld when not passing downs ,

then  again read this on all the new variations Broncos can now use with Phillips & Williams

How does he affect the defense?

3-3-5 l.ooks, 4-3 looks 3-4 looks and 5-2 looks all discussed

also as

Shaun Phillips' versatility at LB as important to Broncos as price tag

shows can really mix things up as can play varying positions and has ,both as 2 point or 3 point pass rusher, & varying sides of the line

Dwight Freeney's asking price continues to fall.

The Colts' all-time sack leader reportedly started out asking for $8 million a year in free agency from the Broncos, who needed to replace Elvis Dumervil. “That number got closer to $6 million as the talks went on, but the Broncos moved on at that point,” the Denver Post reported.

The Broncos ended up signing former Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips, and seem prepared to start Derek Wolfe and Robert Ayers at defensive end.

Now, according to the paper, Freeney says he wants a deal similar to the two-year, $8.5 million contract Atlanta gave Osi Umenyiora.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora still would not rule out the Broncos, who are in "Super Bowl or bust mode." The Saints and Patriots also reportedly were interested in Freeney.

Someone is going to sign Freeney, a seven-time Pro Bowler who's only 33. But he might have to lower his demands further to make that happen.

Dwight's not getting the best advice......

What can he do when the teams seem to collaborate to drive his price down. Noone wants him, even tho they do, the more they hold out the more he has to lower. The demand is less than the supply. Simple economics. He can ask more but people can just say no and wait him out.

Narc;

    His price is too high....

Dwight cant get 2 years at $6 mil....and he probably cant get two years at $4.25 mil.......now.

He's played this badly. He's a third down guy ...who didnt get to do a ton in 2012 because he was out of position..

Take a one year deal at something like $3 and hope to parlay into a comeback season with a top shelf team and ...and then he can ink up for two more.

I'm hoping he hasnt blown his chance with Denver and will have to go to NE

An org is never in a good position when it is in SB or bust mode...
