From NFL.com --- Ranking the FA Offensive Lineman.....

Recommended Posts

Since we're all so consumed with building our new OL....  thought you might enjoy who one writer at NFL.com rates these lineman....

One note...   I don't know the writer.   Don't know if he has a scouting background.   And if he doesn't, how he bases his views....   So, accept or reject what he's got with a grain of skepticism...

Just sayin....

Also....   you may want to note that in the lead paragraph there are hyper-links to other positions that NFL.com has graded out for Free Agents.    So, if you're curious about other positions as well,  there's a list for all the other spots...

Enjoy!

I want to get either loadholt or vollmer as our rt but more preferably loadholt due to age. as for guard i would want Vasquez beause i think hell be cheaper than andy but i wouldn't be disappointed if we got Andy just for the fact that the o line needs to gets better so were going to have to pay big for that to happen.

Ranking Louis Vasquez as the best guard above Andy Levitre? He's certainly the minority with that belief.

In other words, that's completely *ic

*ic?

Before you say that compare some of these numbers....I was kinda surprised myself...

....and it also appears that Vasquez is a better scheme-fit for the Colts.

Absolutely. Another case of somebody ignoring scheme fit and just relying on other people's opinions to form their own. Vasquez is the perfect fit for the Colts and Levitre is not. I said yesterday that if Levitre was half as good as some make him out to be here, there is no way Buffalo would let him get away. They have plenty of money, unlike San Diego(with Vasquez) to make a fair offer to Levitre. Levitre is a good pass blocker but nothing else stands out about his game. He's not a good run blocker and has trouble keeping engaged with his defender. Not exactly what a man blocking team would be looking for.

Which no doubt accounts for the penalty difference between the two....and I was pretty surprised considering Levitre's relative hype.

But Vasquez having only 1 penalty....a false start, and zero holding calls....in 4 seasons? That's usually a pretty good indicator of sound technique.

Yeah, I noticed that too. That is pretty amazing and like you said, shows that he has superior technique and overpowering strength. Levitre is a solid zone blocking lineman, but quite frankly, the hype he gets from some on this forum is comical.
