Back Up Qb

We should try for either Pryor or get and rebuild Brady Quinn. Pryor is just trying to get into the NFL, so we know if he gets a shot he'll work hard, and he'll take being a back-up opposed to nothing. Quinn used to be a great QB but the Browns murdered him and the Broncos will never give him a shot. If Quinn gets to spend time to learn from Manning, he could be a solid back-up.

Agreed, Quinn was better than Smith in college... Furthermore, Quinn played for Notre Dame. The hype about having another local back (Same hype Davis got for being from Ball State) is a great thing to have in a back-up QB. It puts a lot of support into them when they play. While I might be a bias ND Fan, I think Quinn would do great in our system and we could get him for cheap

I've liked Quinn from the start, but he just doesn't seem to have what it takes to succeed in the NFL. If he was as good as he was hyped up to be, he should be Cleveland's starter. I also wouldn't want Pryor or Smith on the Colts. I would have liked if we kept Brandstater, but he is gone now and they really seem to like Painter, so he will probably be Manning's backup

I always liked Ryan Mallet and I wish we could of picked him up but he isn't one of the best team players. You cant always have a backup like Earl Morrall but its nice to have a DECENT one. Instead of looking for a backup this organization needs to look for our next franchise QB. Ideally they are going to draft him one or 2 years before Manning retires so he can learn from the best.

I was just wondering if anyone would be on board with bringing in Troy Smith? Obviously the staff loves Big 10 players, so why no love for Smith? Any other thoughts for a possible back up?

I didnt even know troy smith was a free agent, i think the colts shouldve brung him in, give the preseason a lil excitment... obviously they wont but it would have been cool, strong arm.

    • Absolutely!! This makes the season so much more fun. 😊   I wanna win! But more importantly, it's all about beating my score last year 🤣
    • I think HOU certainly got better. On defense, they added an All-Pro pass rusher in Hunter and also added Autry. They might have best ER duo in the NFL (though I say that without looking too in depth into it).   On offense, even if Diggs isn't still a great WR, you can do a lot worse at WR3. Nico had a legit breakout and Tank Dell was on pace for 1k+ yard/10+ TDs as a rookie. Even Noah Brown was productive. They have talent and depth there.   They also have a proven TE in Schultz, which I think gives their TE room the edge. Stover is also a prospect I liked. At this point, the Colts TE room doesn't have that TE1.   Colts have the better OL, but HOU is still a top 15 unit, possibly top 10 when healthy (which is the key). They dealt with injuries early last season, but once they got healthy, they were much better.   And at QB, Stroud is the more proven QB at this point.   Have to give them edge on offense overall. On defense, I would have to give them edge as well, due to their secondary. Right now, I think that's a big ? for the Colts.    I really don't see any major weakness, at least on paper. But they do have to face a gauntlet of a schedule, which probably caps their win total. Still, they should be the favorite in the AFCS.   But it's not just HOU, I think TEN is going to be much improved as well. And JAC has won 4/5 games against IND. Just overall, the AFCS should be really competitive, which makes picking up more wins tricky (vs. the past where at least one of those teams was typically bad).
