Dont Read Too Much

We are told by coaches, media, and fellow Colt fans to not read too much in the news that comes from minicamp and otas. So if we dont read too much does that mean we can read some things? Luck told a reporter on video he was competiting for his job. Luck got nearly all of the snaps on the final day of camp. Can we read he is without a doubt the starting QB and not competiting for his job? Donnie Avery received a lot of reps and showed well receiving the ball. Avery also played special teams and is up to 200lbs and has regained his speed. Can we read Avery will make this team and probably make an impact. Collie has had a good camp and played both slot and out wide so he makes the team and probably starts. Maybe we can read that Fayson, Cosby, Whalen, Adams, and Sambrano will be competiting for practice squad jobs. Stanton was praised by Pagano as having had a good camp. Can we read that Harnish, Vittatoe, and Legree will fight for a possible 3rd spot or practice squad. Stanton even ran the option play with a pitch to Ross for a Td. Delone Carter and Daren Evans are both dinged up so Deji Karim is getting lots of reps and has st ability so maybe Deji makes it ahead of Evans. Has Seth Olsen emerged on the OL ahead of Tepper, Anderson, Foster, and Hicks? Freeney and Mathis have looked good at OLB so can we read that Hughes wont get a lot of time at OLB? What other tidbits of info can we gleen from the camps that has not been mentioned?

otas and mini camp is basically conducting experiments to see what should go where. until TC comes everything that has been done and said is just speculation, but of course not having any football for months us fans just love a headline to talk about and keep us busy.

We do love something to talk about but we know Luck is the starter. I seriously doubt he gets all the reps as an experiment.

I understand what you are saying....

I've always thought that coaches have little responsibility to report things accurarately or tell the truth...

....but in sports...the media also have little repsonsibility to do anything other than give their opinion..

..and since we dont play for 2 months....It comes down to .... who do you trust?

oh no of course he will start, but most things that go at that time coaches want to see certain players doing different things

We are told by coaches, media, and fellow Colt fans to not read too much in the news that comes from minicamp and otas. So if we dont read too much does that mean we can read some things? Yes... but not too much. These have basically been walk-throughs. Between that and injuries, it's next to impossible to read too much. (By the way, Atapci, I think you know the answers to all your questions, my comments are for the few who may not)

Luck told a reporter on video he was competiting for his job. Luck got nearly all of the snaps on the final day of camp. Can we read he is without a doubt the starting QB and not competiting for his job? Coaches **LOVE** competition. So, they almost always say practically everyone is competing for a job. Is Luck competing? Yes. But it's his job to lose as opposed to it's a toss up and he has to win it.

I'd say they may be competing for a 6th spot first, behind Wayne, Collie, Avery, Hilton & Brazil. The question becomes will we carry 6 WR's? Or, will they have Fleener be that guy? Too early to know. Otherwise, it's the 6th spot and practice squad.

Stanton was praised by Pagano as having had a good camp. Can we read that Harnish, Vittatoe, and Legree will fight for a possible 3rd spot or practice squad. Stanton even ran the option play with a pitch to Ross for a Td. Stanton the back-up, everyone else for a possible 3rd spot or practice squad as you note.

Delone Carter and Daren Evans are both dinged up so Deji Karim is getting lots of reps and has st ability so maybe Deji makes it ahead of Evans. Maybe, but honestly, way too early to know. Again, gray area with injuries and the lack of contact in practice.

Has Seth Olsen emerged on the OL ahead of Tepper, Anderson, Foster, and Hicks? Here is where the rubber really meets the road -- line play. Nowhere is contact/hitting more important than it is in line play. So, between injuries and the eventual hitting and picking up the system and perhaps the ability to play multiple spots, this is just way, WAY too early for anyone to really know who is ahead of who.

Freeney and Mathis have looked good at OLB so can we read that Hughes wont get a lot of time at OLB? You're likely right on this one... (especially if the poster who noted Hughes looked lost and not receptive to coaching turns out to be right)

What other tidbits of info can we gleen from the camps that has not been mentioned? I defer to those who are closer to camp than I am -- which means 99% of you. But this has been fun.... talking football is always a good way to start the day!

This is too much, I didn't read it.

OTAs and Minicamp do provide some fanworthy information. They probably don't tell us who is going to start or make the squad, but they give some insight to what coaches are thinking right now, at this ridiculously early stage of the season. They have traditionally meant next to nothing for us because there hasn't been this level of competition at so many positions in years, if ever. We will be missing these little tidbits of info for the next month and a half, so I reserve the right to read too much into things now, only to be surprised later...
