I can’t link from my phone, but in the last 25 minutes, Yahoo Sports is reporting that OBJ is signing with Baltimore for 1-year and up to $18 mill.

Sounds like it could happen tomorrow, or no later than this week.

Basically a done deal. Baltimore paid his $15M guaranteed price for a year to essentially take him off the market and cancel his visit tonight w the jets.

wonder if Baltimore will finally pony up for Lamar now.

They only have 6m in cap space before this deal.  And that’s with Lamar’s 32m tag on the books.  So some cuts or restructuring should be coming.  This will make it more difficult for them to match any offer that Lamar might receive.  They really need him to play on the tag.  Paying him more than the tag will be challenging to say the least.

Clearly their best bet is a long-term deal with him since that is almost certainly going to be something where the guarantees can be spread out over a number of years and some type of back-loading can be done to lower that upfront cap number. Assuming the word is true that a fully guaranteed deal is not the end goal and just the end goal is a massive guaranteed amount that approaches Watson territory. Even Watson's deal was only a cap number of ~$9M last year and was restructured to only be around ~$19M this year.

So they can get creative, especially w the out-year void years and such. Kick the can down the road to the time when you have to bite the bullet and blow it all up for a year (ala Atlanta last year with their massive dead cap lol)

I would actually argue the OBJ signing is even more reason for optimism in BMore that LJax is back in 2023 and possibly beyond as well.

Signing him long term would lower his cap hit for next year

Eight years in, two torn ACLs, 31 years old, now will be targeted as the lead receiver by defenses and who will be throwing to him? So far, not LaMar "Show Me The Money" Jackson. This is laughable.

If a team with a lot of money was making a big offer then they might be able to pressure the ravens into letting him go in a trade or for the two firsts from the tag.

The thing is nobody is making those offers!  The ravens dont really have to do much right now because they can tell him to play on the tag and no other team is pushing hard to get him out of there

He can threaten to sit out but if nobody is making an offer then the Ravens dont have much incentive to do anything about it.
