Not sure what Irsay will have to pay JB in cash beginning with the new league year, and through next season, but it could be a wash if he paid Rivers the same cash he would have paid JB.  The only issue would be the salary cap implications, and the Colts have plenty of room to handle it.

On the 3rd day of the 2020 league year, Brissett will earn a $7 million roster bonus, which became guaranteed on September 6, 2019.  Brissett can also earn another $2 million ($146,00 per game active) in roster bonuses. While a Colt, he will also an additional 6 million in base salary, and another million in other bonus.

If he is cut  before June 1, JB will only get the 7 million noted above, but the dead cap on the Colts books will be 12.5 million with only a net 9 million dollars in cap savings. If he is traded before June 1, the Colts dead cap is only $5.5 million. But that means the other team that traded for him has to pay him $16 million.  I'm fairly sure that won't happen, and Colts might have to eat some of that as part of a trade deal.
