Polian and Irsay are right, build from the draft

I keep reading about how we should go after this guy or that guy. But when was the last time a team got much better spending big on FA's? If signing FA's made teams great the Redskins, Raiders and Cowboys would be all world every year. The Cowboys got better when Bill Parcells was there and built their team through the draft.

Now a piece here or there? Fine, I can see bringing in something that can be a difference maker. But for every difference maker there's 5 Albert Haynesworth's eating huge cap spaces and giving nothing in return. Look at what happened to the Jags in Free agency the last few years, and apparently they still haven't learned their lesson.

Exactly. The Eagles will not win the Super Bowl this year, you can take that to the bank

I 100% agree, you don't win the SB by winning free agency.

We've always built from the draft, and look where it's gotten us, 2 SBs, and 1 SB win. For God's sake, most of our starters were either draft or signing because they were UDFAs. You need to have chemistry, and getting several different players from different doesn't get you chemistry.

You need to look at the contract these players have with the colts... all are 1yr deals if they dont pan out they could realease them.... if they beat out the players the colts have then your statement is invalid. Chances are these players are gonna be a big impact and better this team.

If UDFA's can make an impact on the team what does that say for EARLY 1ST ROUND DRAFT PICKS.... your pointing out the good why not point out the bad, cant stop a team when they need to be stopped, not many sure tacklers.... These players have a great chance of bettering the team and adding more depth.

It says a number of things, it depends on the situation. If it's an undrafted WR like Blair White, he will have a bigger chance to make an impact than a guy like Hughes because Hughes was behind 2 All Pro DEs who didn't get injured and White had tons of injuries to the guys in front of him. On the other hand, it could be a situation where you have a guy like Aaron Maybin, who just...sucks. I don't think that's the case for Hughes, he still hasn't been given a fair opportunity to prove himself.

The good teams, the VERY good teams find the gems in the later rounds or the UDFA's. Look at the Jags with their first round picks. Of the last 10 years 1st rounders only 2 remain, the 2010 and 2011 first rounders. What keeps them going is their success in the late and middle rounds. Free agency has been as good for them as their first round picks. Jerry Porter STOLE 10 million, they brought in a corner from San Diago for big bucks, he lasted 1 year. Good teams develop their own and develop them, 90% of the free agents are free agents for a reason, and it's not just because their contract expired.

You are not reading things carefuly then. Nobody is saying we load up on 'Big Time Charlies' on many positions, using up lots of cap precious bucks. Everyone knows the economics don't work, never mind anything else. But when there are opportunities to strike, you make it work. The Polians are so stubborn, that even if they could trade for a quality FA, they wouldn't. It's repetive, blind and extremely short-sighted. We have wasted some pretty big bucks on keeping our own, when perhaps more imaginiation in Free Agency might be worth a try now and then......
