Police want to question La'el Collins

I believe that it is likely that if a team is truly interested in Collins the team owner could probably find out exactly what the Police/DA had and if Collins was a suspect or just being questioned as a matter of routine.

The problem is this: Police, law enforcement and investigators aren't going to share much information about a murder investigation unless and until a suspect is established. Even then they rarely make any comment at all, especially one that would jeopardize their ability to pursue the truth. That's why the original article makes the details really fuzzy. If a suspect, or potential suspect, knows what the investigator knows before he/she gives their interview, then the suspect can use that information to craft their side of the story and/or potential alibies.

 

Not saying Collins is guilty, but seems odd to me that he is working to establish an alibi for a murder he is not even accused of. It seems like he was unwilling to help with this investigation, or at least being un-responsive enough for the police to issue their public statement of "We want to talk to you."

 

It's suspicious actions like this that can turn a guy from "not a suspect" to "the suspect" in a hurry. If LaEl's story doesn't add up, then this is really looking bad for him.

Adam Schefter just said that some teams believe Collins will no longer be drafted at all. Anything can  happen in the NFL draft.

There has to be at least one team that would gamble with a 7th rd pick on him.

Sucks for him but there is no way for teams to know for sure that he's been cleared until after the draft is over. This could kill his draft stock. No one wants to spend a 1st round pick on a guy who might be going away for life.

I think he drops out of the first now. Doubt he goes undrafted. Somebody will gamble.

I don't think the police would willingly release info for the asking.  I was suggesting there is always someone inside that has access to the information that will talk for the the right $$ ... and the owners are rich enough with the connections to find that person and find out anything the police currently know (or believe) if they want.

If he's still there on day 3 I'd think about taking him. First round picks (which is what he was before this) are still in the league about 70% of the time 3 years down the road. Day 3 picks are less than 20%. They're always a flier, if he's got an alibi as I've read on this forum then I would be ok with taking the risk of a late round pick being wasted.

We're so late in the 3rd round I'd consider taking him there.

 

I think there is a better then 80% chance he didn't commit this crime.  The fact that he's being questioned only means he had a connection to her.  When someone's murdered like that the police talk to pretty much everyone they've talked to in the past couple years.
