I have to admit that this surprised me. Pats cut Jake Ballard. He did not have any receptions in the preseason. I was pretty high on this guy. Thought he had the size and hands to fill in for Gronk nicely. I think the Sudfeld guy was just too good which pushed Ballard out.

 

On the bright side, some in the media see this release as an indicator that Gronk will not be put on the PUP list and could start playing soon. I am not sure about that but certainly hope it is true.

On the other hand, they have 2 other healthy tight ends and it seems that Gronk's rehab is going well so you can certainly understand it.

 

I think it's fairly likely that he'll get picked up by someone else.

Micro fracture surgery. Explains it all. He was limping through most of TC, and he just never got healthy enough.

A shame for him, good guy and talented to, not great talent but if he was healthy I wouldn't thin twice about picking him up and dumping Cunningham

not only did the cut JB they also cut ties with TE Daniel Fells.

You know what, since we will go multiple TE looks, given the injury history of our TEs so far, might be worth a look at least from the run blocking checkdown TE role point of view for the Colts.
