The Broncos now need Manny Ramirez, a guard by trade, to hang in there. Ramirez will be Manning's hiker until further notice.

The Broncos could also move Philip Blake, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, from guard to center. Blake followed Walton as the starting center for Robert Griffin III at Baylor.

( HOWEVER BLAKE WAS NOT SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF SUCCESS AT CENTER OR GUARD & was on IR last yaer ))

My friend actually posted about this on FB. He's been posting pics all day from TC.

not a member OF Facebook if that what FC means

Wonder if they had just signed him earlier as always thought should for depth at least , so he had work in OTAs if he wouldnt have been susceptable to injury or if was just a freak accident

I do not know what happened

@JasonLaCanfora: I'm told the MRI on Bronco veteran Dan Koppen does not look good.

;'

here is article and has your quote

Peyton Manning running out of people to snap him the ball

Broncos starting center Dan Koppen was carted off the field on Sunday and will have to have his knee evaluated, according to USA Today.

The early indication is that Koppen may have suffered a serious injury. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has been told that the MRI does not look good.

If Koppen's injury is serious, that will leave the Broncos short-handed and inexperienced at center. Koppen started 12 games at the position for the Broncos last season, but he was only playing because the center before him -- J.D. Walton -- broke his ankle in a Week 4 win over the Raiders.

For now, the Post reports that Manning will be taking snaps from Manny Ramirez -- not that Manny Ramirez -- until Koppen's injury situation is figured out. Ramirez is going into his sixth-year -- second with the Broncos -- but he's spent most of his previous five seasons playing guard

.

The Broncos can also turn to second-year pro Philip Blake. Blake has been lining up at guard, but he does have plenty of experience at center'

------------

( but only in college as last year early before season BLake went on IR   I believe & when  if showed any potential why when walton went down did they then go to Ramirez & not Blake, blake blocked in College for Mobile RG3 , he would have to do alot more for Peyton )

What centers are in free agency? Maybe Saturday will have a go, but he seemed to slim down. Who is injured on that line? What is their status's?

C Walton - Ankle - possible mid season return

C Knoppen - Knee - out

LT Clady - Shoulder - 2/3 weeks

RT Franklin - Toe - ????

RG Chris Kuper - Ankle - ????

Only healthy starters are the guards Beadles and Vasquez. However Clady and Franklin will be ready for the season. Center is the only true worry. And Ramirez as a starting center is scary.

Dan Koppen reportedly suffers torn ACL

Starting center Dan Koppen was carted off the field early in practice with a knee injury. After practice, head coach John Fox would not give an update as to the seriousness of the injury, saying "he will get evaluated."

HOWEVER

Jeff Legwold         (((    Denver Broncos and NFL reporter )))

Exam has shown #Broncos C Dan Koppen has torn ACL.

Franklin , Beadles and Vasquez only quality starters  practicing since OTA's

Its not just who can play center, but who can play center in a QB offense ready to unleash a more fast based one in a Peyton Manning led OFFENSE, Peyton may be QB of Team , but Center needs to be smart quick call blocking assignments and be on page with Peyton

Forgot when, but once when some center Down, Saturday, Walton last year ???  Manning had to call both the  plays and relay blocking assignments to Center for OL or just include them in all his audibles . he specifically mentioned that this this slowed all down, throw in a rookie RB depending on, & u really have issues & noi depth at all if another injury

Knoppen was promoted to first team over Manny Ramirez who tok all 1st team reps since Walton went down & was  last years OG porous one who couldnt pass block and teams quickly learned to key on him to pressure & or sack Peyton

He apparently is now first choice unless trade away a 1st round pick for established player etc or something they can come up with and have the cap to sign knowing they need cap space next year

Maybe its just fate working against Peyton all these years save for when Sanders came back healthy just in time

2 interesting articles on peyton & myth  regarding

his arm strength in last years playoff loss and his

The actual turning point for Manning in this game was when running back Knowshon Moreno went down with injury in the third quarter.

This never gets talked about because Moreno is not a great player, but he did have his best game of the season in Baltimore (21 carries for 115 yards). In this game he caught a touchdown, but only had 10 carries for 32 yards. The running game had 18 carries for 62 yards (3.44 YPC) in the first half and fell to 22 carries for 64 yards (2.91 YPC) in the second half.

Manning was never going to win this game on the legs of Moreno, but it’s what happened without his presence in the backfield that turned things sour for the Denver offense.

Manning was not pressured once by the Ravens until that drive in the third quarter when Moreno went down. Rookie Ronnie Hillman played most of the game afterwards. It only took two drop backs after the Moreno injury for the Ravens to register their first pressure of the game. Terrell Suggs sacked Manning on his 24th drop back of the game.

Manning was not throwing deep in the second half because he could not trust his protection. The Ravens came away with six pressures, three sacks and a forced fumble in a span of 10 drop backs for Manning in the third and fourth quarters. Of course he would start looking to get rid of the ball as fast as possible.

& his playoff loss history

 9 & 11 Facts

HERE IS A   SUMMARY ,  I am not trying to bring up a debate or discussion here, just that maybe Fate is the Hunter,, Great Movie with Glenn Ford as Star

article goes over  individual key games , with videos too

As you now see, Manning has experienced just about everything in the playoffs, and it usually is something bad for his team. The combination of rare events is the reason for a 9-11 record despite the fact they are not getting 9-11 quarterback play.

In the eight one-and-done games in particular, Manning has completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 2,075 yards (6.87 YPA), 10 TD, 6 INT and a 82.0 passer rating. The staggering number of drops (over 30 in the equivalent of half a season) and tipped-ball interceptions do those numbers little justice. One loss was by 41 points, and the other seven by 26 points combined.

While the stats may not be world-class numbers, they are clearly not the mark of a 0-8 quarterback. Yet for Manning, that has been the result.

Manning has high-quality playoff stats, but they have not led to wins.

  • In the regular season Manning wins 82.6 percent of his games when he has a passer rating of at least 85.0 (it is 77.8 percent in the 85.0-110.0 range).
  • In the playoffs Manning is 5-6 (.455) with a passer rating of at least 85.0. He has been at least 88.3 in each of his last five playoff losses.

The six losses are as many as Joe Montana (12-3), Tom Brady (10-2) and Brett Favre (11-1) have combined. The only other quarterbacks with a losing record (min. four games) are Warren Moon (2-4) and Ken Anderson (2-3).

If that is not bizarre enough, there is the fact that even when Manning and his entire offense avoids turnovers, he still loses at a most historic rate.

  • In the regular season Manning's teams are 40-2 (.952) when they have zero giveaways on offense. That is the best record in the league since 1998.
  • In the playoffs Manning's Colts were 1-5 (.167) when they had zero giveaways on offense. The rest of the league is 50-5 (.909), and that even includes two games where neither team had a giveaway.

When your defense allows a fourth-quarter comeback 60 percent of the time

 you have a real problem

. It is one thing to let Drew Brees do it, but when it's Jay Fiedler, Billy Volek, Mark Sanchez and Joe Flacco? That is completely unacceptable.

Manning's had a lead in the final 0:40 of the fourth quarter and lost four playoff games.

The only four times Manning's teams have held off comeback attempts, they led to three straight wins and a Super Bowl in 2006, and a Super Bowl appearance in 2009 after holding off the Jets.

PS  &  THEN I AM OFF

There are 1 or 2 teams I heard with backup decent centers that would fit broncos  that are willing to trade for draft picks, forgot who they were, there was an article on this by  one of national sports networks when Walton got injured as a better idea than Knoppen

BUT WITH DRUNK Front Office suspended   there is no top exec  to scout & choose these guys

also less serious but

Derek Wolfe (ankle) also left practice and did not return. But Wolfe stayed on the field for the remainder of the workout.

Ramirez has been taking 1st team reps since OTA's as walton never ready, after Knoppen signed after OTAS, TC waas 1st time he was taking snaps, he was second team first few days then elevated to starting

Problem with Ramirez as a OG last year filling in for Kuper he was horrible and teams just keyed on him and he gave up most of the sacks & pressures, he can run block and is 320 pounds but cant pass block

he also has missed some snaps at center in the exchange to QB , something u know Peyton doesnt like

Denver just may need to draft a new center next year to solve issue

------------------------

Montee Ball meanwhile has been slow to catch on as RB, save for showing excellent hands in catching

as a whole THe D line has outplayed the OLine greatly aand if games were real , Peyton would have been sacked alot

--------------------------

I repeat

This will totally disrupt the new offensive plan if Ramirez cant call & recognize blocking assignments fast enough or relay from Peyton fast enough

Broncos, desperate for center help, sign Steve Vallos

Vallos (6-3, 310 pounds) is a sixth-year player who has seen action in 44 career regular-season games (9 starts) with Seattle (2007-09), Cleveland (2010-11), Philadelphia (2012) and Jacksonville (2012), according to the team's press release.

Vallos played in four games combined last season, for the Jaguars and Eagles.

This isn't the answer at center, but clearly the Broncos did their homework at the position when J.D. Walton underwent subsequent surgery a few months ago. They were ready with a contingency plan hours after Koppen went down - even if that plan only involved adding depth.

http://www.milehighreport.com/2013/7/28/4566268/broncos-desperate-for-center-help-sign-steve-vallos

Maybe sign Ryan Lilja ex colt & Chief OG ,& was KC center for 2 years and want to unretire, any thoughts ???

WHY VALLOS & NOT AMANO

By Mike Klis, Denver post

With training camps underway across the league, Steve Vallos and Eugene Amano topped a shallow list of unsigned centers. The Broncos made contact with the representatives for both before coming to contract terms with Vallos on Sunday night.

Several personnel executives in the league said Amano, who played nine seasons with the Tennessee Titans, was still looking for the pay of a starter after he spent the 2012 season on injured reserve with a torn triceps.

=======================

By JEFF LEGWOLD

The Denver Post

in looking at the players available and how they’ve played in recent seasons, the best fits would likely be Steve Vallos and Eugene Amano.

Amano has far more experience as a starter in the league — 68 starts and 124 games played in his career — but many personnel executives in the league say Amano is still looking for a multi-year contract befitting a starter rather than an unsigned free agent.

Amano is also coming off a missed season — he spent 2012 on injured reserve with a torn triceps — so hasn’t played in a game since 2011.

Vallos, a seventh-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2007 draft, has played in 44 career games for the Seahawks, Browns, Eagles and Jaguars.

Vallos was a tackle at Wake Forest who has since spent much of his NFL career as a guard and center.

And the injuries to major, contributing players continues....This might spell trouble for the Broncos offense.

I sure would flip if A.Q.Shipley ends up on the Broncos in a Ravens-Broncos trade.

I liked Shipley.  Surprised the Colts let him go.  How about a trade that brings Shipley back and we can send Satele to the Broncos.  Just give the Ravens draft picks.

That's a big loss because Walton (the other center) may not be back this year.

Got to go with Manny Ramirez.

He's been with them a long time....and he's certainly phiscal enough..

But the calls and the snaps ......  He's got 4 weeks to work on it...

theres gonna be a lot of pressure coming up the middle in peyton's face this year

Actually..this is just Ramirez 2nd year...with Denver...he's 6-year vet..

The Broncos allowed one sack for every 35.8 dropbacks with Koppen on the field last season, compared to one sack for every 18.1 dropbacks with him off the field. Although the Broncos were much better with Koppen on the line, they managed to remain above the league average of 16.7 dropbacks per sack in his absence.

& that was Vs with Center Walton playing before his injury and any rare time Knoppen may have gone out for a rest

http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/69272/key-injuries-as-training-camps-open&ex_cid=MyESPNToday_Team

Big Difference

EVEN worse staats when compare Kuper in Vs Ramirez as RT OG , Ramirez was so bad 9 Save for last game Vs Ravens with kuprer plaing on a rebroke and shattered around metal plate ankle ( never should of been allowed to play )
