It's one practice. Lets not overreact

It just mimics every preseason for years now. We look rusty and unprepared in practice. People say "It's just practice". Week 1 rolls around and hey apparently it wasn't just practice - we really weren't prepared.

I hope we come out guns blazing week 1, but I've just read too much of this during preseasons for me to not be worried.

I'm sorry. I'm just not the type to care about how we look in practice. I wait til the real games.

There's 2 practices though. We didn't look good against Arizona day one either

I hope you're right and we just need to adjust, but at this point I really won't be satisfied until we come out and look competitive week 1.

Getting the feeling AR is going to have accuracy issues.

That throw isn't an accuracy problem, it's a communication problem. Richardson will be inconsistent with accuracy, but that's not what's going on there.

More like reading the D issues against experienced DCs like Lou Anurumo kinds...let us keep in mind he still doesn't have enough starts under his belt, we have to temper expectations.

We need to win Week 1, I'm with you. And it's not encouraging to hear that the guys are getting outplayed in a joint practice.

Teams are just going to play the run against AR and JT crowding the box and our pass catchers are going to have to win a lot of 1-on-1s for teams to change the way they play us. That is how I see it play out in the beginning till AR and the pass catchers make enough big plays for the safeties to back off.

Like Krunk said, it sounded bad in the Cardinal's first practice as well.  No if we don't show up in practice 2, that will be a real concern for me.

Is there a second practice? I thought it was just today...

Honestly I only really care about what I see in the actual preseason game. The practice not so much.

There's a lot of context missing from practice. If the team decides to work on specific stuff vs trying to "win" the practice, it could look like they're being outperformed.

Precisely. The Eagles did us the same way last year but we looked much better against them during the actual preseason game. I think we won too.

I think they go tomorrow as well but I could be incorrect.

I think it's just one practice, today. The game is Thursday, they won't practice the day before a game.

This article calls today's practice the final one for Bengals camp.

I think we panic too quickly here on this board.  We come out with some duds early in the season and we’ll know our team may be in trouble.  Until then, we’ll have good days and bad days, and pre-season still means exactly nothing.

Early in the season, the D plays better with better health and unless you are an experienced O, the rhythm for the D is better. So, I am hoping the D holds the fort enough times early on giving the O time to gel and settle as the games go on.

I also feel that AD could be a red zone specialist early on before getting more involved between the 20s as the season goes on.

    • Last year at end of season I posted on here. Same ole same ole.  And that is what this is.  Same ole.  Same ole.  Same ole crap every single year.  One common denominator.  Chris Ballard.  We have changed coaches, QBs, Defensive lines, Offensive lines, assistant coaches, kickers, and the results are all teh same.  A horrible start to teh season.  A run in the middle to get fans hopes up and then losses at the end of the season.  That is literally the playbook under Chris Ballard.  An absolute horrible and I mean horrible GM.  But not as bad as our owner.  He is so full of pills he can't even think straight or walk.  he is a disgrace and this football team looks just like he does.  A disgrace.
    • this has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've seen on this forum in a very long time hahahahah
    • AR was not great at "quarterbacking" in college, but had glimpses of a high ceiling.  By all accounts, he was always going to take more time to transition to an NFL QB.   I think not having anybody on the roster that could play forced Ballard into having his developmental guy be his starter,   He could not afford to lose this particular potential franchise guy where a less "desperate" situation would allow him to pick a Will Levis in the second or a Jacob Eason in the eth...both of whom also had all of the physical tools but lacked some critical element that needs developing.   Cowherd has been making a point that all of these young QBs that are being forced to start, not Stroud, are all playing really badly.  Ideally, you have a vet starter while the young guy sits, but it seems the FOs need these guys to hit right away.  I would call that desperate, but maybe that's too strong of a word.
    • i honestly think this might have been ballard's worst offseason when you sum it all up. the cut draft picks, resigning aging players who seem to be underperforming early on.  & the proof is in the pudding. Cross leads the NFL in tackles ( or did after the sunday slate, not sure if someone took his spot yet) not only is that ironic he's our best tackler, but the fact he's leading over our LB's goes to show the decline of Speed and Franklin IMO both have seen their best football
    • Hey, we had a great game plan.  The other team chose not to live up to our expectations.   It takes two to tangle.
