Indy Eleven Announces Stadium Project

Recommended Posts

This has been in the works for a long time but Indy Eleven has finally announced the site for their stadium.

Part of me is excited by this and another part is skeptical.

It's great to see new development and the area they have could use it but I can't help but wonder why they can't make Lucas Oil work? Granted, that's way more capacity than they need but so is this 20K stadium they are planning. Is yet another sports stadium really the best use of the land? Also, how much are tax payers on the hook for?

Location wise it's nice to see some development around Lucas Oil. When that stadium was built I thought there would be more development around there. I'm surprised Irsay hasn't pursued anything in that regard. (that i'm aware of)

I've seen games at Lucas Oil and for soccer, it just doesn't look good to be playing on a football field with all the yard lines, etc.  Here is Louisville, we built a 12,000 seat soccer only facility and we average 9-10 thousand a game.  We were playing in the Louisville Bats baseball stadium and the sightlines just didn't work.

Hoping Indy Eleven enjoy more success with a new facility.

I had never heard of the Indy Eleven.  Did they choose "Eleven" just because of the amount of players on the field?

yep

That is comical.  What a horrible way to name a team.  They really couldn't find a name somewhat unique to Indy?

No, there's a meaning behind, I just don't recall what it is right now.

Edit: Ok, in addition to the number of players on the field, it's an homage to Indiana's 11th regiment Indiana infantry in the Civil War.

THAT, from wiki.

that does make it a little better.  I couldn't really make out what the logo is.  Looks like a statue of liberty-type person holding a sword with a bird on her head.    I am sure I am wrong.

I think that logo is of the statue on top of Monument Circle if im not mistaken. Who cares about fu’tbol!? Honestly? As Charlie Sheen said, “Since its so popular, then they dont need me to watch it!”

I just hope they dont take away our tailgating spots when building the stadium! They shoulda took away that ugly coal plant west of LOS! That things always been kind of an eyesore!

    • That means nothing until after the draft
    • The PR guy has no way of knowing who the Colts will pick.   You are correct.     But everything that gets posted on the front if the website has to be approved at some higher level.   It’s not done by just the PR guy.   And I think Chloe makes a reasonable argument, that if the franchise is putting these profiles of the top 4 QB candidates on the front of the website it certainly appears as if the team is implying that they plan to take one of them.      Now, it’s certainly not a guarantee.  Ballard’s hands are not tied in any way.  He could take the DE, he could trade down.   He’s free to do what he thinks is best.    But outwardly,  the Colts talking up these 4 QBs certainly generates the perception that the team will take one of them.
    • Loved the post and agreed w a ton of it. I have said in repeated topics that if you put Howie and Ballard together you’d have the perfect GM.    imho, Howie is not the best drafter. He has had some misses and some terrible evals in the draft. But he is a wizard in FA and in trading.    I think the hard part that our fan base just can’t seem to come to grips with is that our philosophy is not going to be to be big players in free agency w this GM. He has said it over and over and fans that get hopes up are always disappointed.    I will add this tidbit that everyone seems to ignore:   we truly have no inside insight into how Irsay thinks about this. For all we know, he is all on board w this approach and leading the charge. The colts are his lifeblood. He doesn’t have a major source of income outside of it. We know from very sources that the colts have a budget they set every year that they can’t go above. This might be something restricting our spending snd even Ballard’s willingness to change his stripes.    I will also admit that there haven’t been many free agents under Ballard that we have added where I later regretted the addition nor the contract.    whereas when we last spent freely under Grigson, a lot didn’t work out. I remember how excited I was the Andre Johnson and Frank Gore year and how terrible it went lol.    I often stick up for Ballard only because I genuinely couldn’t name 10 GMs I’d rather have right now. And definitely can’t think of a specific candidate I’d take over him if he walked.    like other, I’d like to see what Dodds or Morocco would do in the same position. But they at least have to have some alignment philosophically w Ballard or they wouldn’t still be here and be his top lieutenants.    here’s hoping the turn around starts w this rookie QB and that that turn around includes opening the check book while the rookie is on that rookie qb contract in years 2-4.
