I saw they're gonna interview Byron Leftwich for the opening. That would be an interesting hire. He's a pretty good offensive coordinator but he is coaching Brady and all those weapons. So who knows if he's actually *that* good. Would be kinda cool to see him coaching the Jags after playing for them.

Isn't that when everything went straight downhill for them? They were division winners 2015, 16, 18, 19. Bill Obrien was the head coach/GM for all those years.

Bill O'Brien was not the GM all those years. Wasn't Rick Smith the GM? I believe he left the organization when his wife was diagnosed with cancer.

@Qwiz Is that right?

Yea your right. Billy OB took over GM duties when he left somewhere on the timeline. All im saying is he was head coach winning Division Titles, became GM at some point and things really fell off a cliff for the organization when this Easterby guy started pulling the strings. So I wouldnt be so quick to call Billy OB such a terrible head coach.

I think O’Brien is a competent coach.  After all, both Belichick and Saban are obviously high on him.

But he shouldn’t have much to do with personnel decisions.

    • This is why it also has to be understood with caution when people say, "Levis played in Pro style offense, and he could be pro ready".    I have serious doubts that Levis would be able to start NFL games immediately in his rookie season. What exactly did Kentucky program prepare him to be in the situation, if they're not good? His games are full of very short range throws that make stats and completion percentage look great. People misunderstand that as if he's very accurate as a passer.    On one hand, we say Kentucky program didn't have good supporting cast. On the other hand, we say their program had NFL style offense and he was talented above the level of his team mates.    Sounds like a lot of projection for me to trust his QB evaluations.
    • So go sign a guy who can do what the mid level draftee can do. Jimmy G just got $24m/year. I guess what I'm saying is that even if you draft a guy who doesn't have that high level potential, there's nothing preventing you from finding an upgrade, and in the meantime, you still have a competent young QB who can run your offense, instead of a guy who's getting booed by your fans after every missed third down attempt. We're basically talking about Derek Carr, who we all agree the Raiders should have upgraded from five years ago, but he's still good enough to provide your team with a stable floor.     Very well put.   And I agree on Richardson, he doesn't put his head down and run around like a mad man. His default mode is to find an open man, and that makes him twice as dangerous to defenses. I'm not trying to rain on the Richardson parade, I like him. Just trying to promote honest and balanced discourse, because there's two sides to every coin.     I mean, Stroud makes those guys you're naming look like mannequins. They already kind of look like mannequins. I don't think he should be comped to guys like Manning or Brady. Goff is a decent comp, but I think Stroud can move better than Goff could coming out, and I think Goff hit some noteworthy highs when he was in a good situation. Ultimately what held Goff back was his processing, not really his inability to make plays out of structure. He just couldn't see it/didn't trust it, and McVay pulled back, and then he was basically a shell of himself by the time they got to the SB. He's looking more like a QB you can win with these days, even though we know he has a ceiling.   And other guys who primarily operate from the pocket include Burrow, Tua... Stafford can move but he doesn't run (and he's better out of structure than other pocket guys), same for Dak. But any of these guys have to be able to get out of trouble and either pick up a 3rd and 4 with their legs, or complete a pass on the run. I think that's something Stroud has on tape. What's tough is, like you said, he's rarely pressured, so he doesn't have to.    I guess that's the real value of the Georgia game. What will he do when he faces pressure? Will he just fold in the pocket, like Goff did in the SB? Or does he have the ability to extend a play with movement, and still perform? The one play that I really like from the Georgia game is the first TD to Harrison, where he escapes right, points to the corner, and then fires the ball 40 yards to the back of the end zone. Even the second TD to Harrison, I don't know if Stroud is consistently surviving contact like that in the NFL, but the movement is there, and the throw downfield is on the money. Those plays are more than Manning/Brady/Rivers level of movement. That's Burrow/Stafford stuff.   No doubt the landscape has changed, but you also don't get high level processing like Manning/Brady/Rivers/Brees. That's rarefied air, even for their own time period, we're talking about some of the best pocket passers of all time. From 2006 to 2014 is probably the best collective QBing in NFL history, and it's mostly pocket guys, despite the read option stuff that started happening around 2011. We generally won't see guys who are that good anymore. So you can't have a mannequin at QB. But I don't think Stroud is a mannequin.
    • Goes to show you how little they value pro days.  Panthers playing them for all its worth.  Which isn’t much.
    • If the foot was broken, did Levis have surgery after the college season and before the Combine?    Not sure what to make of it.. if his injuries were serious, that would raise a question now if the team drafting would be able to start the NFL season.    I guess, Honest details about the injuries aren't going to be forthcoming, people are going to take that as a concern or excuse or real reason depending on whether they like Levis or not.
