Is Matt the answer behind Luck at this point?

The reason we have the likes of Johnson and Tanney?  These are the slim pickins' of NFL QB's out there, and it isn't pretty. It was my draft wish to have spent a 5th on a decent QB, like the Packers did on Brett Hundley.  And the Packers have Scott Tolzein behind Rodgers and ahead of Hundley! Now we are stuck with MH, whether he is good or bad.  If he is bad, then outlook is poor if Luck can't play.  And it appears this Sunday might be the day- and  Matt's test.

Available QB' list-

Rex Grossman
Jason Campbell

Tyler Thigpen
Jordan Palmer
Matt Flynn
Jake Locker
Christian Ponder
T.J. Yates
Tahj Boyd,
Josh Freeman
Chandler Harnisch
Ryan Lindley
Tim Tebow

Not a one on that list I want for a Backup next year.  I hope we spend a draft pick on a decent QB.  How nice it would be to have a situation like the Titans, if Mariota gets too nicked up, Zach Mettenberger comes in.

Solid list. I would move Osweiller up to the top tier.

What is interesting is the teams that are relying on their back-ups right now do not have very good ones.

There is no answer if luck goes down.

With Pagano, Hamilton, Christensen, Gilbert and the rest of the Colt's coaching staff (maybe even the GM), Tom Brady couldn't be the answer, nor could any QB that has ever played the NFL game. This was obvious over two years ago. Nothing has changed. Nothing will.

For all the scrutiny that Grigs has come under fire for concerning the o-line, to me one of the BIGGER travesties is NOT having a viable backup behind Luck at this point of his career ESPECIALLY considering all the big hits that Luck takes on NEARLY every play game after game. Not having a suitable backup is the very reason the Polian show ended here. Matt is the very short answer starting for Luck due to ANY type of injury but coming at a price tag of 3 million dollars for this season ALONE I'm sure Hasselbeck is expected to either WIN or come close to winning the ballgames that feature him as the "next man up". No matter how you slice it Matt is a 40yr old NON MOBILE pocket qb with DECLINING skills (due to father time) being asked to fill in under center on a team that some say has the worst OFFENSIVE (no pun intended) line in the league BUT if there's ANY game that can MASK Matt's shortcomings it would be facing the lowly Jags at home by featuring a LARGE dose of Gore and utilizing a short passing game. Can Matt's body withstand some of the hits that WILL happen in the pocket behind this subpar line? I don't know or care to find out but IF the answer is no; Colt fans will get a good look at the newly signed 3rd stringer qb a lot SOONER than expected!!!  :omg:

I wanted to put Osweiler right where Hasselbeck is.  That's why the double asterisk for both.  But Oz is still too much of an unknown.  I can't put him in a spot based upon only guts.  He has to have a body of work that is reliable and dependable too.  So That's where he is, for the moment.
