I'm not sure if Mariotta would've been the first player picked last year.

But I feel confident that he would've been the first quarterback picked overall if he had come out.

And, while I doubt I could find stories that said that, I'm pretty sure I read stories saying just that......

Bortles was always the kind of wild card in that draft.

I think Mariota will be the better QB of the two. The only knock I really have on him is his size. Winston has a laundry list of red flags that would scare me as a GM. I think in the draft process it'll come down to determining whether Mariota can make NFL caliber throws and what Winston scores on his wonderlic test.

After watching the semi-final match-ups in college football, one thing was clear Mariotta and Winston were the best QB's. For the draft coming up which of the two will get picked first? Which of the two will have a better NFL career?

I think it'll be Winston, to both questions. He reminds me a lot off Byron Leftwich. Not only because he looks like him, but they also have similar styles of play. What do yo all think?

I think they're both headed to Bustville, based on their relative draft positions.

Mariota will be an average NFL quarterback, IMO. He is an exceptional college player, but I think he is a huge beneficiary of Oregon's schematic strengths. You would basically have to tailor an entire offense around his skill set, whereas true franchise quarterbacks can excel in multiple schemes. It isn't a perfect comparison, but I see him as Bradford 2.0, with Mariota having more athleticism.

Winston scares the hell out of me; your Leftwich comparison is apt from an NFL production standpoint, I think, but I believe he could be headed for a Jamarcus Russell-type flameout territory. All of the physical tools, none of the mental makeup.

    • So true. I was watching his presser yesterday as I wanted to get a feel for him after some of the negativity surrounding his personality on the draft day, and I LOVED how happy and excited he was. I had a little fear that some of the fan base would buy into the negativity prematurely and make it a rough start for him, but I don’t think so anymore.    I think he and Latu are both going to be playmakers for us, if not this year then very soon. Have a feeling they bring exactly want this team needed to finally take off. They bring a lot of faith to me, together with Richardson and Steichen. Can’t explain it, but the pieces to the puzzle is suddenly to see on the table.
    • Cubs beat the Pirates tonight but the Brewers won as well, what else is new lol. Cubs are now 23-16, Brewers are 23-15.
    • Couldn’t agree more! The chip on his shoulder is a very good look. That said, I have always valued the “clutch” gene in players.    It’s truly something that can’t be coached and can’t be taught. AD has IT! Period. Exclamation point! He has it. Name a better receiver in the college football playoffs/ championships ever…   You can’t teach that. He has it. He can be that guy. He is the 33-32 Colts over the Pats, 4th and 1, AFC Championship, game changer. He can be that guy… Will he? I have no dang idea. But does he have the ability to be? Yes! Resounding, yes!
    • I absolutely LOVE that Mitchell picked 10 as a constant reminder that 10 WR’s were picked before him.  That is a GIGANTIC chip on his shoulder.   So far I like everything I’m reading about the kid.  There may be speed bump or hiccup some day….  But so far so good.
