It has been so nice to see Dwight with a gigantic smile from ear-to-ear each time he's interviewed this TC.  For those that have expressed your appreciation for him as a player and former Colt:

"For a player with Pro Football Hall of Fame credentials, Dwight Freeneyis generating surprisingly scant NFL buzz while making a return from a torn quadriceps.

That’s going to change once more folks start seeing how good he looks.

Just ask San Diego Chargers left tackle King Dunlap. He dropped into position to block Freeney in a pass rush drill on the second day of training camp practices. The outside linebacker fired off the line of scrimmage, dipped, made a trademark spin move and left the much larger Dunlap in the dust as Freeney’s defensive teammates burst into cheers.

“He tends to do that to people,” Chargers safety Eric Weddle said with a smile.

Entering his 13th season, Freeney is sixth among all active players in sacks with 108. He also was a member of the league’s all-decade team for the 2000s while playing for Indianapolis.

But Freeney’s NFL future was cast in doubt last year when his quadriceps ripped four games into the 2013 season. The Chargers had signed Freeney to a two-year, $8.75 million contract after a new Colts regime allowed one of that franchise’s most storied players to leave as a free agent. If he couldn’t recover and display the same explosiveness at age 34, Freeney wouldn’t be back with San Diego in 2014.

The Chargers, though, never lost faith in Freeney. Proof of that came during San Diego’s playoff run. Most teams don’t travel with injured players who aren’t part of their plans. Yep. And to the OP's point, sports media abandons even the biggest stars once they start to miss large swaths of time in concurrent seasons. The same happened to Bob Sanders when the stench of career death wafted around his very presence. The 2006 defensive player of the year was barely mentioned as a Charger, and when he got hurt again, there seemed to be little interest in even pondering the fall of what could've been a HoF career spinning into retirement in only a few short years.

I believe he will be playing in a rotation to keep him fresher in hopes of a post season once again.  

The problem with these rotations is that the opposing teams OC can feed off of this. Seeing one of the leagues premiere pass rushers out on 3rd and 2 just lights up a play callers eyes. We did that here with him his last few years here, and when the opposing team saw him out, they took advantage.

IF there is a drop off in your rotation, yes.  However, we have Jarret Johnson and Melvin Ingram in that rotation and they are beasts.  Dwight took a pay cut this year to hang in there and has come to camp fresh and with hunger.  I hope I can point back to this at the end of the year and have been correct - however, we all know it can go wrong all too quickly when you get up there.

Believe me, it would make me terribly happy to see him dominate like the days of old. Many feel his injury was a key reason why we lost the 09 SB. With Manning and Smith in your division, attacking the QB will be crucial.

I've heard more than one report that says he's back to top speed..

Its fair to worry about him staying healthy but if he's OK,. no one tackle can pass block him consistently..

....I know they play the NFC West...but they have the defense to take them on...and Denver too

Even if he stays healthy he was in sharp decline his last year with the Colts.  Really don't see how missing an entire year to injury could improve his sinking stats.  Great player for the Colts but there is a reason they didn't resign him.

      Can't keep having your safety be leading tackler. We will also lose Cross to injury if the rest of the team can't learn how to tackle.    Especially Franklin

      I still think the inaccuracies and the sailing of his throws is masking the progress he's made as a QB. I think decision-making-wise and when it comes to reading the defense, he's on a very good trajectory. He looks like a QB who knows what he's doing, who knows where he needs to go with the ball. He probably needs to work on his timing with the receivers a bit and he needs to be a bit quicker with his decisions at times, but overall those are things a young QB will naturally get better at with time and experience.   Just take a moment and think about it - it feels like almost every single one of his worst looking throws are throws where he went through his progression, read the defense and made the right decision. Just the throws themselves were off. Some of them WAY OFF.    Now don't get me wrong, at some point he will need to start hitting those throws because at the end of the day what's the point of reading the defense and making the right decision if you sail the ball 5 yards over the receiver's head? If he doesn't get better at that, he will bust, because no team will have the patience for a vet QB who can't hit those type of throws with any consistency. I really hope the coaching staff is working with him on it and we see some progress by the end of the season.

      Give him the rest of the year before we make too much judgement on progress. Dude is super young and still figuring it out.     I think his footwork is poor, and he relies on his rocket launcher arm to save him w/o thinking about mechanics. When he's under pressure is when he resorts to kind of like a backyard ball approach.    I think the WR's have issue on trying to catch his fastballs, so now he's trying to throw with "touch" and underthrowing quite a bit. Though there have been a lot of dropped passes by the WR's for sure.    All these wildly sailing balls and inaccurate throws are what's concerning. Hopefully it's all correctable. (I think it is?)
