Not necessarily every one, but have you considered the recieving corp is just not that good?

Not making fantastic plays, yes.  Not good, no.  They are good.  But some of the catches that people have been wanting them to make would have been ESPN Top 10's.  The colts would fill 7/10 spots if they made all the catches people are complaining about.

Griff played pretty well.....with Reggie out, I think it is important to have a guy in there that always runs the correct route and that has gotten the notice for catching pretty much everything that comes his way.

Keep in mind we were playing the top defense in the NFL....lets give Griff a chance. I have a feeling he is going to play a big part in our success for the rest of the year.

I really hope you are right. The team needs him to be successful, and being on the field for 65% of the snaps, with 9 targets seems to support your theory.

I'm still stuck relying on the old eyeballs, though. Other than the one play in the redzone where he was uncovered and Luck didn't see him, I rarely noticed him creating any separation. Even his 3 catches (from recollection) were on throws into tight coverage.

Maybe he'll learn a few tricks and get craftier. I'm just not ready to crown his * yet.

Versus the projections we would have for Whalen?  Show me Whalen was active in the first place

That's just it, we don't need projections for Whalen, in the 2 real NFL games he has played he has 5 catches for 60 yards.

As far as him being active, you can look at his transaction history and see he was not released from the Colts until September 30th and then signed to the PS on Oct 1st.  Also you can review the game book here.  It list substitutions and inactives.

What attributes of DHB does Whalen have in the first place?  Replacing Reggie with Whalen as a possession player makes sense, but Whalen for DHB makes very little.  Whalen can't even get any separation across the middle, and he certainly wouldn't be getting away from anyone deep.

Yes, it would be nice if a palyer goes down a team can replace him with a player with the same attributes, that is rarely possible in the NFL, so you replace him with the best player available.  In your example of the SF game that player would have been Whalen because Rogers was not activated.

Did you hear me make any yardage projections or quote the amount of catches he would have in a game?  No you didn't hear me say that.  I've always argued that Darick is the more talented of the two practice squad players, of whom neither one of them has much credibility in the NFL so far.  You don't have quotes on me anywhere saying specifics on what Rogers would do in a real game.  It's all based on what I felt he could possibly do.  That's all you can do with two players who have very little NFL film.

Nope, you didn't say how many yards or catches he would have, you just stated he has more speed, more talent and reliable hands.  And I'm saying you have nothing to base that on (speed notwithstanding).

    • Link to article   This guy likes what how Ballard has built the Colts. The Colts are far from being mediocre. JMO
    • I almost spit my coffee out reading this a few times, lol!  I love sarcasm and I especially love it when there is some truth to it!  Well played Sir!
    • I guess the whole question is the merits of the report. You report on his diabetes with tons of guesses and speculations and WITHOUT taking the side of the person who's been affected here and who's living and dealing with that condition. You report on the player being uncoachable WITHOUT taking the opinion of his coaches about being coachable or not(and BTW from what I've heard both from Colts and Texas coaches, this is resoundingly NOT TRUE). You report about him being immature and honestly, everything I've seen on the surface suggests the opposite. You report about his combine performance by giving it a pretty harsh reading(the video is in this thread and the account of what happened by McGinn is in this thread... People can actually go and look at what happened and make their own mind about whether the characterization of that workout was fair or not. I will just say you can represent the player stumbling in a drill and going again in various different ways and McGinn chose a specific way to represent it. It was the most negative way you could choose).    You know I had my own reservations about that outburst by Ballard at the presser, but the more I'm learning about Mitchell the more I actually believe in what Ballard was saying and the less merit those reports have in my mind. Maybe I have my own unconscious biases too, now that I have vested interest in Mitchell actually being good for us. I don't know     I guess ultimately none of it matters. AD's success or failure won't depend on some pre-draft reports... it will depend on how he handles himself from now on, how hard he works, his drive to be great and our staff's ability to get the best of him.
