Looking at these (3) guys in the draft DE/OLB

First off, forgive any ignorance I may espouse, I am just starting to watch extended highlight film of these 3 guys and I want to know if (in your humble opinion) I am missing something in their style of play and who else in the DE/OLB mold that has a reasonable chance to be available to us to look at.........Ps. I am horrible with names so forgive me if I get it wrong, I called the free safety from Buffalo Darius Byrd and was duly corrected, or maybe that was right and I said something else.......what happened to bob, bill, fred etc LOL

Without so much as are they project to us, cause depending on who you believe one of the 3 may.....I am curious and learning what their strengths and weakness' are in regard to how they could help the Colts.

 

 

Mingo, looks to be powerful and lanky, for lack of a better description. He doesnt seem to have that quick get off, he is quicker after contact. Haven't really seen pass coverage of him so don't have an opinion in that regard...... If that is an accurate assessment, I see him projecting to a DE in our system more than a OLB/Freeney replacement.

 

Oakafor, just about the opposite. Great first step burst nose for the QB but can be mauled and looks clumsy in his back pedal on passing situations, but has the speed to make up for that clumsiness in closing in on a reciever.

 

Datone Jones, kind of looks big and lumbering, but would help hold the line, won't give you tons of highlights but wont get exposed consistently either......I swear the dude makes plays in some of the clips I have watched but he always looks like he is moving in slow motion, its like an optical illusion

 

 

Please give me your assessments of these 3 and anyone else that could play either position that may be available in the 24th slot or slightly lower if we trade back

Datone Jones is a DT/DE, not OLB/DE.

Mingo a 34 DE? He can't even be a 43 DE!

I don't really like Okafor in a 34.

Mingo is overlooked, IMO, because he pretty much has to be a 34 OLB, and he didn't have impressive numbers. Watching his tape, he was asked to play contain a lot. He is extremely athletic. I would love to have him.

Mayock says Okafor Lacks a quick 1st step. That is what I saw in limited highlights.

Liked how he stayed on his feet in traffic, and he contained well. Looks strong.

They are unfinished products, but I would be looking for that quicker 1st step/burst.

He should be a good player.

I can safely say this is the first time I've seen someone say Mingo doesn't have a quick first step and is better after contact.
