It's interesting to me that Donald Brown is ranked as the 5th best pass blocking back in the NFL, based on the film, yet this "Brown can't block" meme won't go away.

http://www.profootba...-running-backs/

Supe.....He has game swhere he's very good..

but some not so good....

I always try to rememeber that he was the featured tailback in college..which, to me, means he didnt pass block that much...

He had to learn a ton coming into the NFL and two years ago, he was pretty good..

Last year..he was just Okay.... but so were a lot of us

Brown's real value (IMO) is in the flats and on Screen's etc. He is not a between the tackles runner. If you given the dude some open field to work with, he is a one move and go runner. He is a good cutback runner as well. Get the defense flowing one way and then cut back and fine the express way!

J82.....you make a good point..

I dont think Peyton Manning believed in the conventional running back screen pass

He would do the wide receiver screen.

I think that you get Brown outside the hashmarks on a screen and he will gobble up some easy yards.

looking forward to it

If we're talking about his pass blocking, I must disagree, based on last season. He only gave up 2 quarterback pressures all season. Why can't we just admit that he's not as bad a pass blocker as everyone makes him out to be? Is it because Manning yelled at him during his rookie year after he missed a block? That one play, from three years ago, determines whether he can pass block or not?

This is probably something that he was hardly ever asked to do in college, or in high school. He probably always had the ball in his hands, so why would he need to pass block? Learning this kind of responsibility, especially playing with Peyton Manning, was a big deal. But he's obviously improved dramatically, so why not give him some credit?

And again, I don't like that he was our first round draft pick anymore than anyone else does. But I think he's played better than he's given credit for.

Exactly what he gives up and seeing people go by him are two different things..

we got sacked a lot last year....it wasnt all his fault...

But I dont think he's a bad pass blocker..as you probably can gather from some of my earlier posts on him...

I dont mind that he was our first rohnd pick.

I dont grade players on where they were drafted..just what they do...

He does what's asked of him and he's never lost a fumble...

I'm down with Brown

We have 5 good rb's?

The RBs have not had a decent OL to show what they can do. Brown led the nation his last year in college gaining over 2k. Carter had over lk his last year of college and looked good for the Colts last year until the fumbles started. Evans was having a great career at Virginia Tech until he had a torn acl in 2009. Evans came back and had over 800 yards and 11 TDs in 9 games in 2010. Ballard played 2 years at Mississippi in the SEC and gained almost as many yards as Trent Richardson in the same same time span. These players played against good D1 schools not chopped liver. Not to forget Deji Kareem who had over 1600 yards rushing his last year at Southern Illinois. If none of these guys steps out as a feature back they still have enough skills and ability to be a committee that gets the job done.

So the best argument you can make for them is what they did in college? That should be a sign how terrible our runningbacks are.

Donald brown showed flashes and the rest are 1st and 2nd yr players so you have to go to what they did in college besides Brown

    • Im on the kther side of the state, but I reside over in Sumner/ Lake Tapps area. This state, and the Pacific North West in general, is very beautiful. A good view of Mt Ranier can make most bad days good.   Its $600K minimum for a decent starter home around here. Anything less needs major work, or it is in a not desirable area. The not desirable area ones are still $500K.
    • Well,  Washington is actually a pretty awesome state.  It really has it all.  I know people have issues with politics,  but if you are into hiking,  hunting,  camping,  fishing, skiing (water and snow) and many other outdoor activities,  this place has it all.  Plus in two hours I can be in NW Montana.  And I chose Spokane to live because homes are more expensive in the parts of Montana where my wife would live (gotta have an airport).
    • Spokane is a really, really nice city. Its in the wrong state.
    • I live in Spokane Washington,  25 miles from the Idaho border.
    • In Indiana you can get a real nice 3 bedroom, 2 full bathrooms/showers/nice Kitchen/big living room house for 200,000 in a decent neighborhood. Where do you live NY or Cali , in one of the those states I guess it would be about 600,000 to afford anything like I talked about. I could never live in either of those states. If someone in NY moved here, they would be rich.
