I really don’t think a trade is coming.  Brents will be back this year.  Flowers back next year.  This is a temporary problem.  The Colts are deep into depth at corner and this is when you get this deep.  I don’t like Baler being out there either but I dont think there is a significantly better corner out there in free agency and I don’t expect a trade.

We need someone for this year. We have no depth.

they do have depth it’s just not who you like.  They have the guys they have signed to the practice squad.  Brents also isn’t lost for they wear and clearly they don’t expect him to be out for four weeks or he would have been put on IR.  This temporary until Brents gets back.

Again. I don’t like Baker but I don’t think a free agent level player is going to come in and do better.  They aren’t going to make a trade if they expect their second round pick to be back in a few weeks.

No they don’t.

Steichen did not rule out IR for Brent’s today.

They have other corners on the PS that’s depth.  Is it good depth?  Remains to be seen but I’d agree probably not but I also don’t think there is some great player sitting out there in free agency just waiting to be signed.  Guys you are going to get going that route are going about as good as Baker if not worse at this point.

As for Brents if they haven’t ruled it out but haven’t done it yet and it’s been a week that probably means he’s on track to be back around the four week mark.  Again, that’s not long term.  Even if it is, Ballard pretty much told people from the start this is an evaluation season.  That’s what he meant when he said “How do young guys become vets?  They play.”

This isn’t the case of the Colts don’t have corners and need one.  They have two guys outside who have proven then can play and under contract for a while.  They just happen to be hurt.  They also have Jones who has exceeded all expectations and Moore back playing at a pro bowl level in the slot.

Ballard isn’t going to give up picks to go get a guy in a season he pretty much sees as an evaluation season when he has guys who will comeback at some point to fill that hole.  This isn’t 2006 where you are looking at a Super Bowl run and you have a glaring hole that’s already kept you from winning Super Bowls so you make a move to sure it up.  You let the young guys play take their lumps and evaluate them.

Worth noting the last two guys they picked up at the deadline, Booger and Moss took several weeks to make an impact in their new system and it wasn’t until almost the end of the year that their presence started to be felt.  So it’s questionable to say how much would a trade help them now to start with.

Sometimes you can get someone for late round picks. He also might see a young guy that he can build the future with. It doesn’t have to be a really high pick. We are hurting bad at CB. We need help just to get through this year. Not saying it will happen but hopefully it does. We have our QB so what would be so outrageous looking for a guy that can help in the future?

Lammons is 5'9 with very little experience on Defense (32 total snaps last 3 seasons)  he is a special teams player. Surprised we didnt elevate Darren Hall who was a starter last season in Atlanta (634 snaps on D last season).   They may really like Ameer Speed or we may see Tony Brown on the field more. Baker will get the start, leash may be short.

Darren Hall seems like the obvious choice. I don't get why they are even entertaining the idea of playing Baker...

Maybe they aren’t. There is a lot they can do. Maybe stay in base more which keeps him off the field. Baker can’t have 90% of the snaps and I don’t expect him to.

    • Roger's could get turned but catch back up before the ball got there.   I was rooting for Flowers especially because up he did run I n the 4.3s.  It is so sad that "intelligent" posters here post endless endlessly that in Gus's D our corners don't need speed.   With two deep safeties any good QB will pick it apart with current rules. Playing single high when they stack receivers the CB on the opposite side is really playing regular old everyday man. Per Pro football Reference Gus" played man 28% of the time. What kind of madness is it to put a 6'2" CB that ran a 4.57 on ANY of the Many 4.3's WR's? This is your plan?
    • I think what happened is Ballard had a list of 3-4 guys he was willing to take on the trade-down. Mitchell was on top of his list. He might have thought because of the rumors of character concerns and poor work ethic that he may fall to 52, and he had a few backup options on top of his board behind him he was fine with. It was probably worth the gamble to Ballard to get two extra 5th round picks since we only had 7 picks at the time and Ballard likes to build through the draft.
    • This was my point that I posted not long after AD was selected. Many have said and are still saying that Ballard was a genius that figured out the 6 picks that followed him trading back in round 2. There's no was Ballard said something like "wow , I can't believe this guy fell to us ." I could take him here but , I know he's not going to be selected in the next 6 picks , so I'll trade back." It's way more likely that he trades up 4-5 spots if he valued AD that much  more than the other players at the top of his board.  I think Ballard did a really good job in this draft but there's no way in heck , he traded back with certainty that AD would be there at 52.
    • Wow!    You're on fire today.   Post after post that are classically you.  Only you have these views.   That’s why these posts are so easy to remember for years.   I’m struggling to find anything to agree with.   Not that you’d care what my opinion is.  I just couldn’t help but finally respond today.   Sorry.
    • Great interview!!   Both the Colts 1st round and 2nd round picks fell right in to their laps!!   Preparation + luck are equal parts of the equation!!
