The basic math….

The average per year: $55m per

Total guaranteed:   $219m

Good for Burrow, who by all accounts is a good guy.   And good for Cincy which has a long history of screwing things up with their top players.   They got this one right.

The Brown family knows how much he means to this city. The last time we truly had a QB of this talent was probably ‘69 with Cook. Joe truly loves Cincy and the city has reciprocated that love in ways I’ve never seen before. Carson Palmer was never supported as much as this kid is.

Congratulations to Joe Burrow & the Cincinnati Bengals for solidifying their QB situation for years to come!!

The AMOUNT of the contract goes against everything that the Bengals have been criticized for in the past.  Maybe this about-face makes more veteran free agents consider the small-market Cincinnati Bengals.

Burrow missing most of training camp hurt. It felt like a trap game from the moment the schedule came out.

He'll get better as the season progresses. They always seem to start slow. The key to watch for is their revamped line. They spent a lot to fix it and so far the returns have been limited.

    • Its not about "yes men". Its just what it is. They are his lieutenants. They are in place because of him. They think like he does. He likes the way they think. He chose them. He's molded them. They will build the team with his fingerprints on the updated product, whether they realize they are doing it. They are "from his tree". Its just how it is. They are his guys.   NOTE: I believe either one would do a good job and I believe Chris Ballard himself would be honored to have either one of them step into his shoes. Well, about as honored as someone can be who has just lost their job.   I don't know anything about running a professional sports team. I only know I like watching it. But I do have significant experience in building and leading organizations. This is just how it goes.   If you (and by you, I mean anyone making this kind of decision) wants change, but you replace Chris Ballard with anyone from inside his organization, you are going to get a slightly different version of the same thing.   If you want change, you have to start over. Otherwise the stumbles will actually hurt more in the long run. Change or dont change. There is no in between if you want to succeed at something like this.    Now, my personal opinion: I don't think this team is far away (even though it feels like it some games). So, firing Ballard means on of two things: Either starting over or getting a little bit different version of the same thing. Neither on of those make sense at this point.
    • This has been my complaint for several years, now.   After this play, the runner got away with a flagrant foul!   Why is it that this runner can get away with grabbing the face mask and then keeping his hand on Jones’ jaw and not getting penalized?!   To upper management, do you have the guts to make this a new violation for the future in the NFL?   This sucks!   Mr Irsay, do something about this!
    • Its a simple formula, they try to put teams with winning records on in prime time.   Colts and Jets are both sub 500
    • Holder made some good points. He said AR does not have bad character. He said it comes from ignorance and colts failed to set expectations to him. Steichen is not a good communicator. They should have realized this kid was naive and young and should have helped him in this process. Colts basically went from zero to benching him and just didn’t help him with this process
