Food For Thought

Then the question would be what do the Rams do? Do they stick with their really talented, young, incredibly highly paid QB or do they let him go for one of the best QB prospects in recent history? No way anyone would want to trade for Bradford because of his insane salary

But then the Rams would have the #1 pick and dealt it to the Redskins anyways, and I don't think anyone else was going to give up that much for RG3. The Browns didn't even want to give up their 2 1st rounders this year.

But if the Rams had the #1 overall pick and Luck was in that draft, they could use it to force Bradford to renegotiate his contract with the team to take less overall value, or be faced with the threat of being cut, and then picked up by another team for far less.

Interesting.

Some more food for thought is that with the first round pick in 98 Irsay had to decide between the highly rated leaf and the underated manning... who is the underated qb going into the draft in 2012, luck or RG3.... who will be the better fit?

You're twisting facts - Manning wasn't underrated, he was the favourite to be picked first. Leaf built up late competition much as RG3 is doing but most still thought Manning was better - as they do with Luck.

I don't get his point. We could have done that and gotten even more with the #1 pick. What's the difference? The reason the Rams were so willing to trade out of #2 is because they spent $50 million on Sam Bradford two years ago, and they think he can be a franchise quarterback. We're not in that position.

Interesting.

But then since he is no longer a rookie and wouldn't be under his rookie contract, wouldn't he be able to sign for substantially more than what a rookie can under the CBA?

He is still in his first contract, which was negotiated before the current CBA restrictions for rookie contracts.

I think the team can ask him to restructure and lower the overall value (to which the NFLPA will object), or face getting cut.

Bradford has not shown anything that other teams would consider that he is a lock as a franchise QB, and may not value him as much as a rookie QB under the new CBA that they can get cheaper.

Ultimately, it is a risk that Bradford and his agent must consider, what is his true market value if released?

I don't think there's too much to restructure on Bradford's contract. It's very bonus heavy, if I understand correctly. And his cap hits are minimal for a starting quarterback, starting this season.
