Mychal Kendricks

Recommended Posts

Kendricks had a great combine and definitely helped himself out but my question is where would you take him?

I'm thinking he turned himself into a late second rounder if a team fell in love with him after his performance today. So would you want him at No. 65? Where would he fit? I'm not saying I want him 100%, I want to see some more of his games just to check him out. I'm a big fan of Vinny Curry and would want either him or Bradham if we go LB in the first three rounds.

As of right now, I'd want kendricks only if he was there by the time we make our first fourth round selection only because I'd rather adress CB/NT/WR first. Thoughts????

I'd say you're probably about right on the round, but I don't think we need him. I think we're close to set at the position. Angerer will make the transition easily to the 34, I'm not going to guarantee anything for Conner but I am betting he takes the other spot and does fine. Also we could always bring in some cheap depth to fill the position out completely. I wouldn't mind bringing Tyjuan Hagler back, at the very least as a nickel LB. Even if we release Brackett we're still set at MLB.

I'd really rather not go LB, either OLB or MLB until round 5 or so, unless there's just an unpassable talent available. Gotta fill the other holes first.

Just a few people I have above him that could be available at 65...Ta'amu/Casey Hayward/Bradham/Harrison Smith/Dwight Bentley/Brandon Thompson.

Ta'Amu would be a good pick there. Hayward could probably even be had in the 4th. Bradham looks to be a 'do-it-all' LB, and a solid talent, but I just would rather fill the other needs first; NT, CB, WR, 5tech DE. Harrison Smith is a solid player and that's probably around where he'll go, but I know I'm in the minority in that I don't think SS is much of a problem for next year. I've seen Bentley projected as far back as 5/6 round, so that would be too much of a reach. Brandon Thompson is probably an early 2nd round pick so I don't see him falling there.

For me I'm looking at either Billy Winn, Ta'Amu, or maybe the WR out of App State, Brian Quick.

It's about crossing need and talent where possible. You don't just take a NT before an DE/OLB because you need a NT more. Especially if the NT's where you pick are not among the most talented players available. Vinny Curry would be a far better pick than Ta'amu at 34, for example, if he were there. Plus, we don't really have that position fleshed out for a hybrid defense as it is, so need intersects talent, if this is how it plays out.

I think Bradham could fall to the 4th 5th round, where he would be a steal! The Colts need an OLB in a 4-3 look, and an ILB in a 3-4 look. This guy can do both! He could even do outside coverage in the 3-4. How do we not want a jack of all trades. And he brings serious thumping power!

We're talking about pick 65....there's no way Vinny Curry would last that long.

I agree about crossing need and talent, you have to find kind of a happy medium. But let's just say for example you're team is stacked at WR....and at your current pick the BPA is a WR, you're probably not going to draft him. You'll take the next guy, who rates closely on the board, but is at more of a position of need.

If Bradham falls that low we better take him.

I mostly agree with you on Kendricks..... in my pre-combine mock I had us taking him at #128 overall (5th round).

http://forums.colts....e-combine-mock/

That ain't happening now, with his PAC-12 production in Cal's 3-4 defense plus this combine performance.

IMO..... #34 is too high a pick with other value/need prospects likely available to us, but I wouldn't be upset if we took him at #65 if Pagano sees him as a good fit for our scheme.

cornerback could be a strong possibility in the 3rd. seems to be a glut of db's rated in the late 2nd thru 3rd round area. depending on how the first round plays out i wouldn't mind seeing the colts trade down from the 34th if they can pick up another 2nd rounder

Peytonator - Brian Quick has actually been on my radar and I would love to see him in some blue and white.

Hayward had a solid day today, proably moved to 3rd or 4th round. Harrison Smith lit it up and the talk is he will be gone by mid second. Bentley will not be around after the 3rd. Great senior bowl and great day today. Thompson was dissapointing and may have falling to late 2nd or early third. At 65 im liking Bentley, Tommy Streeter, or Bradham

    • I think HOU certainly got better. On defense, they added an All-Pro pass rusher in Hunter and also added Autry. They might have best ER duo in the NFL (though I say that without looking too in depth into it).   On offense, even if Diggs isn't still a great WR, you can do a lot worse at WR3. Nico had a legit breakout and Tank Dell was on pace for 1k+ yard/10+ TDs as a rookie. Even Noah Brown was productive. They have talent and depth there.   They also have a proven TE in Schultz, which I think gives their TE room the edge. Stover is also a prospect I liked. At this point, the Colts TE room doesn't have that TE1.   Colts have the better OL, but HOU is still a top 15 unit, possibly top 10 when healthy (which is the key). They dealt with injuries early last season, but once they got healthy, they were much better.   And at QB, Stroud is the more proven QB at this point.   Have to give them edge on offense overall. On defense, I would have to give them edge as well, due to their secondary. Right now, I think that's a big ? for the Colts.    I really don't see any major weakness, at least on paper. But they do have to face a gauntlet of a schedule, which probably caps their win total. Still, they should be the favorite in the AFCS.   But it's not just HOU, I think TEN is going to be much improved as well. And JAC has won 4/5 games against IND. Just overall, the AFCS should be really competitive, which makes picking up more wins tricky (vs. the past where at least one of those teams was typically bad).
