Cubs have the day off tomorrow, here are the NL Central standings after May 1st:

Cards 20-10

Cubs 16-12 (3 back)

Brewers 17-15 (4 back)

Pirates 14-14 (5 back)

Reds 13-17 (7 back)

-This is the best division in Baseball so far record wise. As of now the Cards would be the #1 seed in the NL and the Cubs would be the #5 seed in the Wildcard game.

Yes the opposite of what I had thought.

One hell of a pitchers duel tonight. DeGrom and Disclafani both pitched gems. The light hitting Jose Iglesias is the Reds offensive MVP so far. Great with the glove but I expect his number to fall back to where they are on the back of his baseball card. Ride 'em while they are hot.

Currently the Reds are carrying 14 pitchers. The bullpen is overextended and noone has options. Called Matt Bowman up. I hope they let Zach Duke go. He has been awful. and Garrett is a lefty and has been good. I wonder if Kemp will be let go for a roster spot for Senzel. Probably not. That is lots of money to eat.

Here we go, Cards at Cubs at 220pm today. Start of an early season big series. The Cards come in 20-11 and lead the NL Central, the Cubs come in 16-12 in 2nd, 2.5 back.

A look at these 2 great franchises over the years:

-The Cards have 11 World Series, 2nd most in MLB history dating back to 1903. Most recently have won the World Series in 2006 and 2011.

-The Cubs most recently ended a 108 year drought of not winning a World Series as they won it all in 2016 by going 103-58. They also have a 4 year streak of making the playoffs from 2015-2018.

-Today's matchup features Jack Flaherty vs Kyle Hendricks.

Just as Darvish is trying his hardest to lose the game for the Cubs, Taylor Davis nails a GRAND SLAM!!!! 5-5 in the 4th!!!!

And now a 4 pitch walk by Darvish, oh brother:wall:

Yeah might as well get greedy now. I had us winning 2 of 3 because sweeping the Cards is very difficult but we have a chance. We are playing with house money now and even if we lose tomorrow the worse we come out of it is just 1.5 back with tons of season left.

Mets have a tenuous 1-0 lead over the Brew in the 3rd. Hope we can score some more runs and win this game to even up the series.

Go Mets!

Mets and Brewers are tied in the 11th. The Brewers blew a save in the 9th on a HR by our rookie Peter Alonso. That is his 10th HR in his early career.

Brewers get lucky like that. You score a run in the 18th and it should be over but not with them. lmao

In the 18th, we bring in this pitcher fresh from the minors. He walks 3 guys in the inning.   I knew it then that we would lose.  I hate it when my pitchers give up walks. OTOH, I love when my hitters take pitches, make the opposing pitchers work and get walks (BBs).

Just had a thought. We used to have a lead-off hitter named Lance Johnson. You recall him?? He was not one to take pitches to get a BB. He once said that he was a lead-off hitter, not a lead-off walker. haha

I don't care how they get on base. Just get on base and produce runs. 3 runs in 18 innings is not going to win baseball games.

    • Mark it down, several will be hurt by August 3rd.
    • Exactly, as long as we are healthy going into opening day then that is all that matters.    By the way, that is one of the best and funniest posts I have seen all year in here, I have to give it a Homer laugh
    • Era's are so different, it would seem LeBron could play in any era and be dominant but in the 80's and 90's the game was way more physical. How would LeBron do against a team like the 1989 Pistons for example? We don't know?, if they allowed the Pistons play by the rules they played with back then.    Regarding the Pacers their 1998 team was the best IMO. We had the Bulls beat in Game 7, I still believe we got screwed by the REFS. Whether or not we would have beat Utah is a different subject but that would have been a hell of a series. Utah would have had HCA.
    • Yeah I try not to let my Colts bias get in the way when I do lists, it is tough sometime. I can understand why anyone would say Randy should be ranked higher. Randy was a freak and was so tall, a QB could just throw a long one to him and on 50/50 balls, he would catch it.    I have gone back and forth over the years regarding Peyton and Tom. My Colts bias says Peyton is the GOAT, he is also my favorite player of all-time so I hate, let me repeat I hate putting Tom #1. I just factor in everything but saying Peyton is #3 isn't a dis , that is practically saying he is damn near the GOAT. I have Montana 2nd because I felt like during the 80's which had all kinds of great teams, he won 4 SB's and was flawless in those SB's. You don't get anymore clutch than him.   I get the Emmitt Smith hate on this board, most here hate the Cowboys but once again when ranking players people should put that aside IMO. Otherwise the list becomes who somebody loves and hates.
