Luck And The "shadow" Of Peyton

So, almost everybody en the media believes Peyton's time in Indy is up, some fans do, some fans also do but cannot accept it, and a few fans really don't think so.

So, let's assume he is gone, healthy, but let go, and we draft Andrew freaking Luck.

One thin is to be a first overall pick and having that pressure, when the team you are going to, basically sucks, and has sucked for a while.

A whole different thing is:

Being the first overall pick

Going to a team with the success this team has had for the last 12 years or so

Being the reason Peyton Manning was let go, remember, Peyton Manning some say, built your stadium and people seem to think he is like a hero for the community.

Playing before a crowd used to the level of success and play on the field they got from PM

I tell ya', the kid ASSUMMING PEYTON IS LET GO, will have like the weight of the earth over his shoulders, I hope things go differently, because if Meyton retires, or he sits ehind him then all that weight is reduced.

Dude we sucked 1 Season where our 4 times MVP Quaterback was injured... we had Painter & Orlovsky as backups they are both far less talented then luck.. We might have 1 bad season to start with like we did with peyton manning.. but one thing is sure... Colts will still be great :rantoff:

He's not saying the Colts suck. He's saying that Luck will be stepping into an arena in a city that is used to winning and have high expectation.

Yes, it will be pressure because Manning fans will be super critical. I just hope Manning is good to go and plays throught the end of his contract and we then bring in Andrew Luck and avoid the whole mess.

Read over his post again. He Was saying its one thing to go to a team like that which is usually what happens but it's a whole diff situation when ur a first overall coming to a state where winning is the norm.

If the Colts draft Luck, and no matter what happens to Peyton, we as Colts fans have a choice in how we treat Luck. I for one am going to choose to be patient with him. I hope other Colts fans do the same. He is not Peyton Manning and thats okay. We should cheer him on to be the best QB he can be.

I totally agree and I bleieve the kid is charistatic and seems to be ready to earn the respect of the fans, I also think that, while we are a complicated fan base, we are "lighter" than some other fan bases, I think that relationship will be good from the get go.

But the media... these guys will do anything to boost ratings and generate buzz, this is not Eli vs big brother which in itself is a tough burden, this is: YOU RAN THE BEST QUARTERBACK TO EVER STEP ON A FOOTBALL FIELD OUT OF THAT TOWN.

Now just imagone Peyton going to KC, AZ, or something like that and winning a SB... wow, that will be tough to put behind for Andrew...

Ofcourse, if he does, then he will prove he hasa tough mind and is really the type og guy that same media believes he is.

That's exactly what I'm saying, we are not the traditional first overall pick holders, we are not the lions or the rams, or the chiefs... we are used to winning, and we are used to winning because of having the best QB,

The whole intention of the thread is to discuss the weight on Luck's shoulders if Peyton is ran out of town, healthy in favor of Luck and the "future"

There's the spirit!Let's go ahead and handout lombardi trophies for all!And give MVP participation certificates as well! This dude(luck) better exceed peyton or we'll send him to the gallows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's my hope that Peyton remains in Indy, but if a transition needs to be made I don't think it's impossible. Green Bay did a pretty good job of turning things over to Rodgers. Granted he wasn't fresh out the fraternity house when he took over, but I think he had only played a few pro games when he got the start.

If that happens, then this is what he better do in his rookie year:4,000/30-35 td's(18 ints or less),65 cp%,with a rating of 93 or higher. But this should be a piece of crumb cake for big ol' andrew.I WILLNOT GIVE HIM ANY ROOKIE WIGGLE ROOM or excuses. From day one and the next 10/12 years his stats better remain the same or improve.I also expect a playoff birth his rookie year as well. But all of this should be easy for the GOAT.

Wow so the only way the next quarterback will have any success in your eyes is if he trumps peyton in every aspect. That is extremely shallow and narrow minded. And who said anything about Lombardi trophies? Be careful that you don't read something that's not there.

If he prematurely replaces the ACTUAL GOAT(manning),then he better outshine him.Why would we replace manning,if we expect this guy is going to be a downgrade? How does that make any logical sense?

Once again you are reading things that aren't there. Who said anything about low expectations. I have high expectations for luckbut I don't expect him to be peyton

When PM came into the league, no one expected him to be the GOAT, or put up a 4000 yards 30-35 TD season(which he didnt). Expecting Luck to come in here and put up Manning numbers as a rookie is almost impossible. For the guy who is ranting off about PM being the GOAT and expecting nothing less than a 4000 yard 30-35 TD rookie season from luck.........wow..

But maureen its ANDREW LUCK.It should be a piece-of-cake.Did you know that SUPERMAN has a poster of LUCK on his wall and he sleeps in LUCK pajamas?I swear its all true~.

I say we play the hand we are dealt. I agree with expectations but.......not as high as you.

Why do you get so irritated with people who want to give Luck a chance? It's not like they are making the decision

I love Peyton and I want him to be our QB until he retires, but the day will come when he is done. It is coming sooner rather then later. He is on the back 9 of his career. If you are a Colts fan, you will root for the next QB. If he can produce, then support him, if he can't, then you can complain, but still continue to root for him and your team.

Of course,i will. But 'luck' is going to face the greatest amount of pressure any player in NFL history if he pushes manning out of town...that's a fact.

Those numbers are very reasonable for the guy that everyone claims is the next GOAT.No,i'm not ranting or joking about it.That's what others will also expect.

No one has EVER proclaimed Luck as the next 'goat'. He is just one of the best prospects of all time. Two big differences.

One and the same.Especially,if his arrival pushes the current GOAT out the backdoor.

You are so angry that Luck will be potentially replacing Manning this upcoming season that you need to intentionally hype him up and hope for him to fail. News flash, Manning is not going to play for ever. As a COLTS fan (I'm assuming you are one) you should be supportive of whoever, even Luck, that we take in the draft.

I don't want the guy and i sincerely believe he's not the best prospect in this draft class.I believe its kirk cousins.

Yes,i do.Has a stronger arm,similiar accuracy,better leader and doesn't choke(cough..cough luck) in big games.

Good zip on short throws across the middle, but doesn't have the arm strength to power the ball across the field to the sideline. His deep balls tend to float, perhaps in part because he struggles to keep a tight spiral.

Generally good accuracy on short and intermediate routes. The Spartans' offense calls for a lot of quick, short throws, so he doesn't have to push the ball downfield much. When he does, his accuracy is questionable-to-terrible beyond 20+ yards.

And Luck choking in big games

Andrew Luck was brilliant in his final collegiate game, completing 87 percent of his passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns, including completing all five of his passes to get Stanford in range for the potential game-winning field goal try.

I know you're probably trolling but I have time to burn

Yeah that's true.

And just when I thought that Colts fans had run out of things to fight about.

My wife and I are the biggest PM fans on the planet. We were here for Jeff George and many many before him. Watching Peyton grow has been the best years that any fan can every imagine. I know when PM is gone, it won't be the same team, ever.

Its more than just PM, tho,..its the bookends Freeney and Mathis, Harrison, Edge... Its a team and every year its a little bit different.

For all we know Andrew Luck could be average, but the colts D ends up being fierce, we find a running game and we go back to winning but in a different way.

The bottom line, is if you are a lifelong fan, you will still love your team no matter what and panicking about one draft pick is pointless....but flamers will flame the trollers who troll. So perhaps this isn't something you want to hear.

You guys, at this point it's a good idea to create a Kirk Cousins v Andrew Luck over in NFL Draft Forum

Honestly the reason why it hasn't been done is because its absolutely absurd. Comparing Kirk Cousins to Andrew Luck is like comparing Peyton Manning to Matt Moore or something. Elite prospect vs. a 2-3rd round QB.

That's what gets me about you guys(luck supporters).Whenever anybody else has a different opinion about 'luck' or shares a different viewpoint, then you want to scream TROLL.Who in the heck do you guys think you are?BTW:I could also google some stuff up that says 'LUCK' has a weak arm, can't hit deepouts and so on.That's the way google works depending which reports you read/believe.But i've seen both play...and cousins is better. He can make all the neccesary NFL throws.

    • Read this this morning. Thought it was interesting    https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/indianapolis-colts/news/colts-rams-nfl-draft-trade-offer-revealed-rejected/be019bcd2ee81b6ffeb4656e     "This was the rejected trade offer from the Rams to the Colts in the first round:     Rams get: Nos. 15, 191   Colts get: Nos. 19, 99, 154   While that's the kind of deal Chris Ballard would be expected to take in the past, the Colts clearly had an eye for edge rusher Laiatu Latu.   It's clear that it would have taken much more in the offer for the Colts to move off the chance of selecting the prospect they believe was the best defender in the entire draft.   There were a few viable prospects available at the time so it would have made sense for the Colts to trade back.   But this only proves how convicted they were in draft Latu."     Not too surprised we turnt that down as it has us losing on the draft chart by a little bit, but does show the conviction they had in Latu.
    • Offense wins in the league now and to take it a step further the QB is by far the lost important piece on any team.    So, on offense you need the best possible QB with the best possible supporting cast and on defense you need players who can affect the play of the opposing QBs directly.
    • This is definitely an issue. So, either Ballard is A.) Cheap and he doesn't want to spend money on FAs (even with injuries happening) or B.) He can't build a competitive enough team to attract any worthwhile FA's after 7 going on 8 years now.    If AR and the current team can't attract FAs that could theoretically get a starting job at the S position for a year, then we are in big trouble according to the opinions of the players of the NFL. Personally, I think Ballard just avoids FA so much that he doesn't want to bring outside help in. He wants to be known as the GM who builds his team from the draft.   Wish the local media would call him out on this.
    • I think the Colts have the money to be competitive for a good free agent safety.  I think bringing in one of them may depend on whether a player like Simmons wants to play for the Colts.  They may be hoping to sign for a team with a better chance of making the playoffs.   So I don’t know if Ballard is making a statement or not?     Hope my answer makes sense to you….
    • I believe he knows that offense is more important than defense.  And that an offense that controls the ball keeps our average defense rested.   I really can’t answer your second sentence until camp.  So let me ask you, as of right now isn’t Ballard saying there are no FA DBs (depth or starting safety) that we can afford who are better than what we have?   If he doesn’t bring someone is, that’s his stance, right?   The logic is that our O will put up enough that we can get by with an average D, IMHO.   Like I said, I’m being Mr. Obvious.
