PFF quarter season O-line rankings. The top 2 shocked me.

The offense can run the football because the Lions switched to a zone-blocking scheme from a power-run blocking scheme and they dont have the OG's to make this work.

Larry Warford was a pro-bowler as a power-run blocker and then the Lions put him in a zone-blocking scheme? Laken Tomlinson is a power-run blocker and everything in every scouting report says he wont ever be a zone-blocking offensive guard. So, the Lions say "screw it" and they draft Tomlinson in the first round to put him in a blocking scheme that doesnt even fit his strengths. You can see Tomlinson, Warford, and Manny Ramirez (who has filled in for Warford when injured) struggling in thi scheme.

This is why the Lions cant run the football. Theyre putting their OL in a position to fail. Warford and Tomlinson will never fit a zone-blocking scheme. These guys are 330lbs power-blockers. It ridiculous that they Lions organization (including GM Martin Mayhew) thinks these guys are zone-blockers. Zone-blockers must be very athletic agile. They must be about 300lbs, not 330lbs road-graders.

This franchise is a joke and its run like a joke. HC Jim Caldwell and OC Joe Lombardi are putting their offensive line in a position to fail.

even though its PFF and somewhat subjective, this is the evidence that there is an Oline problem through out the nfl

13 teams are worse than the colts! how is that even possible? i would hate to be a QB or running back behind a line worse than this one

I guess I don't understand PFF rankings. They seem kind like presenting information because they have the data and computation ability to do it, rather than because the conclusion means something.

These teams are just compared to each other, not a set (subjective) standard. The olines may all be good, or all bad relative to the standard.

We may have the best set of olines in the history of the NFL yet some team will still have to be ranked 32.

I guess if PFF concludes that olines are bad (not that PFF is concluding that) then they must also conclude that dlines are good..yet someone will inevitably point out how lowly ranked the Colts dline might be....

Yet..the Lions had SD down 18 and had Seattle beaten...

Because linemen struggle doesnt mean they aren't suited for the scheme...In Denver, Gary Kubiak has specifically acquired O-linemen suited for the zone blocking scheme.

They average 3.3 yards a carry. The weight of the linemen is not relevant. None of them MUST BE anything

No coach ever intentionally puts players in position to fail (that's talk radio talk) because coaches are fired before players.

That is exactly what I thought. Get us Larry Warford at least in a trade for a 4th rounder and go from there :).

And what is Detroit's motivation to move Warford for a 4?

He was taken at the top of the 3rd round and has out-played his draft status.

In short,  he's better than a 3.

Why would Detroit move him for a 4?
