Best Colt Team Ever?

So they brought Manning out for one quarter in 2 games... still don't think he gets to 55.

He came out in more than those two they were just two that came to mind. He came out in like the middle of the third quarter vs. the Saints that year I think and had already thrown 6 TD passes. They did the samething in the LIons game that season I know that for sure because he threw for six on turkey day. You going to tell me if he finished those games he doesn't throw probably 3 to 4 more TDs in just those two games? That gets him up to 53 or 54 TDs right there.

I think what they are both referring to by saying "letting Peyton go" is the fact that Brady - in breaking the record - played as long as possible and ran up the score where ever possible in addition to not sitting at the end of the season. The Patriots were routinely throwing late TD passes on occasions when the Colts would be running out the clock.

That being said, I'm quite happy that the Colts are what they are. They play to win, not to humiliate, and that's fine with me. By the same token, Brady wouldn't have come close to the record without being able to loft endless bombs to Moss all season long. He made Cullpepper look like a decent QB, not surprisingly he made Brady more effective as well. But I can't stand Moss, and wouldn't have wanted him on the Colts regardless of the potential short-term benefit.

peyton didnt play a total of 8 quarters that year. he was averaging 3+ tds a game so 55 was a real possibility. and like u said that lions he could have set the td record for a game (8) if he had wanted to. the last game of the year was against the broncos who the following week peyton destroyed in the playoffs.

I hope you're just joking...but if you're not:

Manning played in 15 games and threw 49 touchdown passes. You're telling me he could throw at least 6 TDs in one game. It's possible, but why would he go all out, plus they were against Broncos, who had a good defense.

Pretty sure he only played in barely over two quarters against the Lions on thanksgiving day. I may be wrong though.

Of all the seasons during Peytons time with the Colts which team season wise do you feel was the strongest overall talent wise?

IMO, that is an easy answer. The 2005 Colts.

Key Personnel:

WR: Wayne / Harrison / Stokely

TE: Clark

RB: Edge / Rhodes

LT: Glenn

DE: Freeney / Mathis

S: Sanders (Future DPOY)

LB: Bracket / Thornton

CB: Jackson / Hayden

Offensive Rank Points scored: #2

Defensive Rank Points Allowed: #2

Point Differential on the Season: +192 / #1 overall

We won 14 in a row only to drop our final 2 regular season games and then got bounced by Pittsburgh who went on to win the super bowl. Most disappointing season in the history of the franchise including this season IMO.

That 2005 Colts team was great...we would have 2 Super Bowl rings if Harper didn't get stabbed in the leg lol...and our dummy kicker of course. My favorite teams were the 2007 Colts before Freeney got hurt and the 2009 Colts were really special. I just hope the future will be as fun and memorable as the last decade was. Really incredible.

    • It just seems like people have sold themselves the idea he was going to come out great this season which I think is and was completely unreasonable.   I hope to see some improvement by the end of the season, but I really don't expect a whole lot until sometime next season. AR has got so much catching up to do.   I mean, there's no doubt AR's struggles are affecting MPJ, but MPJ has never been a great separater and seeing a defender right besides MPJ is probably stopping AR from throwing his way at this point.   Also, to be clear, I'm not saying AR will DEFINITELY be great, but I do think we DEFINITELY don't know yet and people need to be a lot more patient with him.
    • They both couldn’t throw or work on footwork. To ignore this could be a possibility with AR is naive. Let’s see where he is by game 7. Especially when it looks like he went backwards  from last season.
    • Other than the fact that Luck was a proven NFL QB in his prime and that his shoulder rehab lasted 3x as long.
    • His lack of experience was a well-known risk in drafting him and it's a big reason why some were skeptical (including me). On the flip side, it sort of seemed like people disregarded his lack of experience then in favor of things like potential and upside. But now he's struggling and it's showing. If anything, it's validated those initial concerns.   I tend to think WR drops following a QB from college to the NFL says as much about the QB as it does the pass catchers. But they need to do better. I think it will take a combination of improvements from both AR and the pass catchers.   Not sure if something is up with MPJ, but some "regression" this year was very predictable. At one point, I actually thought he might leave in FA when faced with prospect of re-signing with a run-first team and a young QB who is still learning how to throw short and intermediate passes (the area he operates). But he stayed...and I am glad he did. But if it continues, there are going to be a lot of people blaming MPJ, which is pretty ridiculous, when you think about just 6 months ago, people were talking about how great of a contract it was and that MPJ was a legit WR1 with AR.
    • Last week,Rams home game, Sofi looked like a 49ers home game. Dallas and Vegas are that way too.
