Hello Colts Family  & Happy Thursday

Our QB coach Clyde C. has been assisting our DC coordinator Manusky to prepare for slowing down Peyton Manning

@CraigKColts: Manusky sez he has visited with Clyde C. on how to play Manning, "We've had some talks."

@KBowenColts: Manusky said he's spoken a decent amount with Clyde Christensen, Colts current QB coach who held the same position with Manning.

@mchappell51: Manusky: Talked with Clyde Christensen (long-time Manning coach) to get some insight on defending No. 18.

Other Colts Updates & Coach Comments

@CraigKColts: Manusky wants J. Freeman back. Does not know if he will play. If not, will use what he has.

@CraigKColts: Manusky sez third-down defense last week was sub-par and contributed to loss. "We have to keep on truckin'."

@mchappell51: #colts Pep Hamilton taking blame for 3rd down woes. Good for him. But he wasn't littering Qualcomm with dropped passes. That's on players

@KBowenColts: Pep Hamilton says that he has to do a better job on third down to put his players in a better position to sustain drives.

@mchappell51: Hamilton: Andrew Luck when plays break down. Poise. Athleticism. Ability to make accurate throws under duress. That's a gift. Born with that

@mchappell51: #colts OC Pep Hamilton: Play keepaway from Manning. Important for us to control line of scrimmage and run the ball. Important for us.

My exact thoughts. But then we still get Angerer or Sheppard as his partner. I say we switch to a 4-3 for this game haha

I'm ok with Angerer still. But that is good news about Freeman being out there. Need him to keep an eye on Peyton just in case he decides to run for it haha.

we really need to him to play. The thought of Conner or Harvey covering Orange Julius is giving me nightmares.

It dont matter what Linebacker we put on Thomas, None of them will be able to cover him one on one, Our best bet I think is to strip the ball after the catch

I imagine they already plan on playing mostly Nickel (4 man front) as it is going against a pass happy team like the Broncos.

I hope so. Get Josh Chapman involved more and more consistently. He does bad when we rotate him in. Cause he sits on the sideline so long it's like he gets outta the game mode. If we can get him & RJF in the middle that would be great with Moala & Redding coming off the edge

Wow...you better check the expiration date on your apple juice son.  do you really want to see the colts use a nickel defense with Redding - Chapman - RJF - Moala as the 4 man front?  Why wouldn't you want Mathis on the edge? lol

I'm pretty sure the primary 4 man front would be Mathis - RJF - Redding - Walden.  Matthews and Moala will be the primary subs in the middle with Cam Johnson and Studebaker subbing on the edge.  I wouldn't be surprised if Chapman and Franklin are in for less than 10-15 snaps combined on Sunday.

has Walden played any DE? I don't recall him ever playing DE in 4 man fronts. I could be wrong tho.

he's been rushing off the edge since Werner went out.  whether he's standing up or has a hand in the dirt, I don't think it really matters.  Until Werner gets back or Johnson/Studebaker prove something in practice, Walden will be the other primary edge rusher opposite Mathis.

    • Really hard to say with Kelly. Obviously the team loves him and I’m sure teammates do as well. I feel he played great last year and was a top center. At his age it could drop off at any time or he could have a 2-3 more great years.  I enjoy having him on the team and he may be the longest tenured player on the team.  I’m guessing the team lets him play until he is ready to hang it up.
    • Question:  I believe you have access to far more next level stats and info than I do.  But you wrote something that jumped out at me so I thought I’d ask.     It’s been my observation (certainly last year) that Ebukum and Dayo played the RDE, which I’ve always thought is the LEO.   And that Paye and Lewis played the left side.  I think Paye has most played LDE his three years here.    Yet you wrote that Paye plays the LEO almost exclusively.  By my eyeball test, it’s false and the opposite is true.  Can you double check that?      Sorry for the homework, my PFF stats don’t offer that info.
    • Respectfully let’s not compare Kelly to Kelce. I am also glad that Kelly is healthy and is playing this season and has regained form as his 2021 & 2022 season left a lot to be desired. He is going into his 9th season and has a cap hit of $14,625,000 this season. There are several other players due for an extension in the upcoming offseason. Dayo , Speed, Granson, Blackmon, Flowers, Fries & French should they choose. You have to ask your what will his next contract look like if they do extend him? There are a lot of intangibles.
    • I’d be down if its cheap, paid for, or on the Colts dime! I’ve never played Crooked Stick or the Brickyard yet! A bit too far outa my price range to play those courses! Im usually stuck playing at Smock, Southern Dunes, or the goose-poo filled Orchard on the south-side!
    • I understand fans being skeptical about PFF grades.  I’m a subscriber, but still find some grades head scratching.     That said…. Each player is graded on each play in every game by THREE different evaluators.   Each evaluator is more experienced than the one before him.   So even if you think they’re wrong, they shouldn’t be off by more than one level of ranking.  (If that makes any sense?).     I wish the website did a better job of explaining itself.  That would be helpful, especially with the skeptics.
