Irsay says Colts need to be physical to win a championship

In theory I like the idea. . . the problem I have thus far is . . . with all the success of our running game we have taken very few shots down field.

Typically teams that run a lot in the NFL do it for one of 2 reasons.  1 is that their QB sucks so they have to.  2. (which should be us) is that running it successfully will open up things for shots down field because their safeties bite on play action fakes.

But I just don't see a lot of shots down field.  Our down field/stretch the field specialist (TY Hilton) has seen very little involvement in the game.  On top of that DHB also has the speed to stretch the field and he's not been used in this role either.

And after this week Brazil returns to the game and he's also a guy with the speed to stretch the field.  With all that speed and a running game you would think we could take some shots down field.

I thought the 49ers did a good job covering TY. Shots will come but has to be based on how teams play us.

I hate to say it but the Colts are trying to build there team like the early 2000's Patriots. A great QB thy can fling it and win the game late if need be paired with a good running game and solid defense. This type of system sustains success in the postseason as its still running the ball and stopping in the run, regardless of the teams ability to pass.

I think in 5 years Luck will be the standard in which other QB's are measured.  So I guess my question would be, why can't Luck be that good and the Colts still have a physical team that can run and defend?  It does not mean that they are mutually exclusive.

I agree. He will have games where he puts the ball in the air 50 times and he will have games where he barely attempts 20.

  :funny:  lmao

"Let's get physical, physical

I wanna get physical
Let's get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk...

Let's get animal, animal
I wanna get animal"

Who knew the lyrics of Olivia Newton John would be right on point with Jim Irsay's wishes. Are they Twitter BFF's now too? Ha! Ha! LOL!

If the Colts win the SB in NY this year, will Olivia serenade Jimmy with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" as well during the INDY parade back home SDS? Just kidding!

Works for me man. A comparison to the Patriots is high praise indeed Restored & there is nothing wrong with that duplication at all IMO. Let's see: Almost always in the Playoffs...Check, Wins their division annually by a landslide...Check, Clutch QB...Check, 3 SB Dynasty Rings...Check...SW1 is perfectly fine with those results. Sign me up. Oh yeah!  :yahoo:

I don't think he (BP) was stubborn or unwilling to change. I think he was over-rated and out of his depth.

Don't forget that BP wasn't very fond of having his formula for success challenged by the media. If you agreed with him, he loved you. If not, let's just say that BP didn't display a welcoming demeanor toward the 4th Estate. Some people laugh at criticism, some people politely address it, some people ignore it, & some people lash out.

Care to guess where BP fits in this little dynamic? It's really not that hard to figure out if you think about it.  ;) It also depends what team & time period a person is referring to GM wise here. The last 4-5 years in INDY BP failed to address glaring holes on both lines & a reliable or capable backup QB.

Speaking of Olivia Newton John Shakedownstreet, perhaps Mr. Irsay was motivated by the toughness in this Queen chorus from "Hammer To Fall" too:

"You don't waste no time at all

Don't hear the bell but you answer the call
It comes to you as to us all
We're just waiting
For the Hammer To Fall."

Or Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" perhaps:

"I don't know where I'm going
But, I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
An' I've made up my mind,
I ain't wasting no more time
But, here I go again
Here I go again"

Foreigner's "Double Vision" lyrics would fit nicely for the Colts Defense I think:

"Feeling down 'n' dirty, feeling kinda mean

I've been from one to another extreme
This time I had a good time, ain't got time to wait
I wanna stick around 'till I can't see straight"

Or Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" represents the trust that INDY players & coaches have amongst themselves in the locker room:

"So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trust in who we are
No nothing else matters"

Not in the intimacy sense more like the opposing QB punishment sense. Corey Redding & Robert Mathis on any rival field general we face. "You Shook Me All Night Long:" Scrambling for his life with yet another sack up coming. Sounds fantastic to SW1 anyway.  ;)

"You really took me and you

Shook me all night long
You shook me all night long
Yeah, yeah, you shook me all night long
You really got me and you
Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me
Yeah you shook me
All night long"

I really like this Blues based version of this AC/DC Classic Track:

It's a wrap. Goodnight...
