An easier way to figure the 53-man roster.....

I know many of you will try to crunch names and numbers to try and come up with the final 53....

 

Here's a way to help you do it,  while at the same time, make you realize just how hard this is for the coaches and front office....

 

Ready?  

 

First thing you do is take off 3 for the kicker, punter and long snapper.    Now it's 50....

 

Then, think of it as two parts,  offense and defense.    It likely won't be cut in half for 25/25.   Defense is too violent, too many collisions, and many of these guys are also on special teams.   So,  the question is how many more?    For me,  it's 26/24 for the defense.

 

Now....   break it down by position groups.

 

On defense,  DL, LB and DB...     26 players roughly means 8/9/9.    That's my breakdown with 8 DL, 9 LB's and 9 DB's....

 

On offense, with 24 available slots,  2 QB's,  4 RB's, 1 FB,  5 WR's,  3 TE's (that's 15)  leaving 9 spots for the OL.  

 

There's my 53 man breakdown without names.    If yours looks different -- fine.   But just remember, for every extra player you want at some position, you've got to take away another player at another spot.   I think you'll find it's not so easy.

Too much thinking involved. My life is about chilling out and enjoying. I'll wait for the official 53 to be announced. That's the ez way. I have faith they'll pick who they think are the best 53. Bring on the season!
