Your post prompted me to look it up. Apparently, they just approved numbers 40-49 for LBs in 2015. I was going to say that during the regular season LBs could not wear a number in the 40s and safeties could but it looks like LBs can too now. Still, though, 44 can be either a safety or, now, a LB number so you can't say it's specifically a LBs number.

In his case I can because he is also listed as an ILB on the Colts Roster now.
