Pats Sign New Orleans Travaris Cadet as pass catching RB

Recommended Posts

Ah, Cadet. Should have known he'd be gone.

Cadet really does not do much at all. As a pass catching RB, that's about as useful as he gets, and that's just a scratch. He was very mediocre in NO.

If the Pats just use him to catch short balls, he will be OK, but do not expect much from him. Pierre Thomas, as old as he is put far more effort into gaining yardage (I was kinda hoping the Pats would pick him up or someone else good that would give him a good home where he's appreciated)

Thanks for those insights. He apparently had 38 catches last year on 50 targets which is pretty good. I think the Pats would only look at using him out of the backfield as they have other RBs for running between the tackles.

How was he at returning kicks?

Oh Bogie, can you help us Pats fans with who this guy is? He played for New Orleans the last three seasons and caught 45 balls. He also was a kick returner as well. Your thoughts?

He's got similar ability to Vereen.

I think they're hoping James White (4th rounder last year) steps up and takes Vereen's role. Cadet strikes me as an affordable backup plan.

James White is a talented back. I expected him to be the starter by the end of last season. Multi-purpose back, smooth runner, strong finisher... he didn't have a good preseason, but he should look better this year. I wanted the Colts to draft him late.

Yeah, I think that is why they ultimately passed on Bush and Harvin. If White is the natural replacement then no need to spend big on another player who will be a back up.

That's good to hear... he got excellent reviews in mini camps but didn't see the field a lot this year. Supposedly has nice burst, good hands, etc.

Certainly cheaper than Bush or Harvin. I wouldn't have wanted Harvin here anyway...

They also have that guy (name is escaping me) who they claimed off waivers from Carolina last year (he had a torn ACL).

average at returning kicks.

as for the number of balls caught, that has to do with the fact that it's short pass offense. When he was targeted over 10-15 yards, it wasn't caught. He'll catch everything that is under 10 yards though.

Tyler Gaffney. I forgot about him. He could be pretty good as well.

    • Oh contrare, I’d say it says more about Shane Steichen’s skill set as a coach.
    • Excerpt from an article at NFL.com …     ”… One player the Colts can lean on while Richardson gets his sea legs: running back Jonathan Taylor. After last year's hold-in and injury issues, the star running back looks back to his old self. JT bursts through the line like a Mustang on fire, leaving linebackers in his wake. On Sunday, Taylor totaled 12 carries for 103 yards and +55 rushing yards over expected, his most RYOE in a game since Week 15 of 2021. He also forced five missed tackles across 14 touches.    Shane Steichen's decision to bench the star back during the entire fourth quarter because the Colts were in pass mode belies credibility. Even if Taylor isn't a prolific pass catcher out of the backfield, sitting your best offensive weapon for an entire quarter is folly -- hopefully one Steichen doesn't repeat. If defenses are going to sit back to slow Richardson's deep attack, Taylor should gobble up chunk gains.    At this point, Taylor is the most consistent thing going for Indy. The 25-year-old back owns a game-changing gear and can shoulder a massive load. His presence and production should help settle Richardson down during the roller-coaster dips. Taylor hasn't looked fully healthy in a couple of years. He did this past Sunday. The Colts need to ride that stallion.”     The above referenced article kind of echoes my feelings on the matter.
    • Exactly I am confused with that comment by Shane unless that one drop deserved him to be benched. Again coaches know what's the best.
    • I'm not sure why the team thinks JT can't be effective in the passing game.
