Colts NOT interested in Demarco Murray.

Gotta spend those cap dollah dollahs somewhere with the cap minimum.

The above two things rely very little on the running back, and more the power of the offensive line and the ability of the passing game to be a threat. The RB in question just has to hold on to the ball and hit the hole quicker than it closes. You also exaggerate how bad it's been. The Colts, while in the lower half of the league, still managed to average a smidge over 100 yds/game rushing in 2014, just 8 yds/game less than the Patriots.Ā

Ā

The plan is clearly (and probably intelligently), draft a RB, see what Ballard (remember that guy?) has in the tank, and have them both compete with Boom, Tipton, and either Bradshaw or some other vet for the final roster slots. Free Agency money appears to be highly allocated to defense this year anyways, with all the d linemen the Colts are purportedly pursuing.

Bradshaw just does not last a whole season which any objective Colt fan can plainly see. As much as I like his game, he breaks down. I see Ballard on football team set, in the yearbook, but just not on the field for the last 2 years due to injuries.Ā Let's get real here.

Back in the day,Fans here would probably would not want Dickerson too from being so overused when he was with Rams.

Dickerson was a different era, one when running backs actually mattered more than making sure they weren't a detriment. The Colts running game last year was nearly identical to the numbers the Patriots put up, with the exception of having a severe case of the fumbles in Indy. So the running game production last year, was actually good enough to be superbowl worthy, assuming the passing stats continue to hold up and the D improves.

Ā

What that means is, Indy just needs a RB on par with what they have now who can stay healthy and not fumble. Draft a guy and don't even look at high level FA backs.

You need help being objective with your points.

I will try and make this simple for you....

The running game is vitally important

The offensive line is the most important factor in having a running game

You shouldnt spend significant money on FA running backs

The numbers identical? Who would have thought that? Since you are checking stats, how many rushing TD's did the Pats have? Blount must have more the our total.

I'm not saying to go bust for a back as we have other desperate needs, such as the D line,Ā secondary, and WR as Wayne not wanted. It's not that often when there is a FA class that has a decent amount of backs where one of them could be used on this team.

Yds/carry were identical at 3.9

Pats had 107.9 yds/game, Indy had 100.8

Pats had 13 rushing TD's on the year, Indy had 9

Ā

the big difference is in fumbles, Pats had 1 rushing fumble, Indy had 10.

Ā

So, all in all, slightly better production for the patriots, but nothing to write home about. They took care of the ball much better though.

If Grigson has any sense, he will go all out for Murray.Ā  He is a gamechanger we desperately need.Ā  I can't stand another season of mediocre RB play and don't want to roll the dice on a rookie.Ā  We made the mistake with Trent.Ā  Now let's rectify that and get a legit monster with Murray.

Ā

In the history of the NFL,Ā  RB's with nearly 400 carries and 450 touches in a season (Murray's numbers) always do much worse the next season.

Ā

100 percent of the time.

Ā

Just take a deep breath.....Ā Ā  and then exhale....

Ā

You'll be alright...Ā Ā  and so will the Colts.

I know it isn't the end of the world if we don't get Murray, but Freddie Coleman said on First Take last week that the Colts should "back up the Brinks truck" for Murray.Ā  I only mention that to show I'm not the only one who feels strongly about us going after him :D .

Freddie Coleman is a twit and so is anyone else who think the colts should back up the brinks truck for Murray.

No doubt.....Ā Ā  I'm well aware that many think that....Ā Ā  I know you're not alone....

Ā

We're still early in the Free Agent Marathon....Ā Ā  it's a very long race....Ā Ā Ā  a lot will happen over the next week....

Ā

Give Grig's some time.....

This FA class for RB's is rather pourous honestly. I'd much rather save the money and draft a RB, which if you aren't aware is about as deep as it's been in a while. The Colts DO NOT run enough to pay a RB THAT kind of money, and on top of that our offense isn't predicated around having a pure workhorse-type back. As much as they would have liked to use Trent like that they still went and got Bradshaw.

Well Freddie and yourself are in the minority with that thinking. This offense doesn't require a back with a price tag like that. It's obvious Dallas' OL isn't getting enough credit here in possibly getting Murray a huge payday. Hopefully he does land in Jax so he can really work for that pay check.
