I just got back from the game. Why with a minute to go did we throw it twice. Brown ran well and I realize there wasnt much time left but I mean, should of tried it at least once instead of letting Painter throw an almost pick and then throw an actual pick

Yep Luck is definitely in the equation unless we can trade down and get Barkley + another first rounder perhaps. The Patriots are definitely going to mangle the Colts. 0-16 here we come!

I thought that is why we drafted Delone Carter. Because we suck at short yardage runs. So we sit him the whole game. I've never seen a coaching staff tank a season before. But we are witnessing it now.

Exactly....it should of been run! Especially Brown had been running so well...run it in the red zone, get TD!! I don't get that play to throw it!

I listened to the game on the net, and I found myself asking this question too. I thought we should have ran the ball a few times when we passed instead. Even if you don't have a lot of confidence in your run game, I would still rather take my chances on the ground at this point as oppsed to risking an interception by throwing the ball. I think that if there had been just a few different plays called today we would have won the game. Talk about a heart breaker...

They were out of timeouts and were probably worried about getting everyone lied up. Also the Panthers were doing a much better job stopping the run once our fullback got hurt. They also probably didn't want to waste a down on spiking the ball which would have had to come if the run didn't get in the endzone.

Had the refs had done their job and thrown the PI flag on the play before the INT we probably would have ran it at least once.

I think what has happened is that over the last 13 years, the Colts could have a bad game or a bad area on their team, and if they just worked on the basics it would get better. Well, usually didn't get better. Manning just covered it up. So I honestly think Caldwell believes that if they continue to just keep pushing the same gameplan, doing the same things, just as before things will turn around. Of course, he is missing the guy who did it.

Sorry..I started another thread asking the same thing....

We called those plays as if Manning was QB..and GoColts is right.. Refs ignored clear cut interferencet

    • Allen had zero receivers to throw too those first years..he didn't just magically get better with accuracy his third year ..he got better cause diggs joined the team..
    • I hope he can last till the Colts pick.
    • The more I consider it, the more concerned I get.  When I look at the first year statistical comparisons that I posted earlier, Mitchell looks a whole lot more like Phillip Dorsett than he does anyone else.   Mitchell - 13 games | 7 starts | 20 catches on 45 targets (44.4%) | 254 yds | 0 TD's | 19.5 yds/game Downs - 17 games | 9 starts | 68 catches on 98 targets (69.4%) | 771 yds | 2 TD's | 45.4 yds/game Pittman - 13 games | 8 starts | 40 catches on 51 targets (65.6%) | 503 yds | 1 TD | 38.7 yds/game Moncrief - 16 games | 2 starts | 32 catches on 49 targets (65.3%) | 444 yds | 3 TD's | 27.8 yds/game Hilton - 15 games | 1 start | 50 catches on 90 targets (55.6%) | 861 yds | 7 TD's | 57.4 yds/game Dorsett - 11 games | 0 starts | 18 catches on 39 targets (46.2%) | 225 yds | 1 TD | 20.5 yds/game Wayne - 13 games | 9 starts | 27 catches on 49 targets (55.1%) | 345 yds | 0 TD's | 26.5 yds/game
    • As we go through our discussions and observations for Richardson, we've mostly used two quarterbacks as comparison:  Josh Allen (for his early inaccuracy, strong arm, and ability to run) and Cam Newton (for his imposing physicality and strong arm). There's one other quarterback that I feel needs to be in the conversation: Justin Fields Through his career in Chicago, he was a phenomenon running the ball.  He ran for over 1100 yards in 2022!  But he had a lot less success throwing the ball.  So much so that the team finally decided to move on from him after only 3 seasons. I'm not saying "Richardson is exactly like Fields".  But I am saying that the comparison has merit, and bears watching.
    • I implore you to go back and watch the tape from his first 2 seasons. His accuracy was woeful.
