My Perfect Colts Draft (All 7 Rounds)

DS3

Recommended Posts

Round 1 : Justin Hunter WR 6-4 Tennessee

-With Irsay not being able land a WR via free agency, he'll do so in the draft.

Round 3: Brandon Jenkins OLB 6-2 Florida State

- Me personally I don't believe that Erik Walden will play to his salary and i think there's still a need a OLB

Round 4: Garrett Gilkey Guard 6-5 Chadron State

-Guard is still a pressing need on our o-line.

Round 6: Brandon McGee Corner Back 5-11 Miami

-We need some depth at corner back and anyone we draft is an upgrade over Cassius Vaughn

Round 7: Prentiss Waggner Safety 6-2 Tennessee

-Depth Purposes

Round 7: Colin Klein QB/TE/RB  Mr. Irrelevant

-Not much to say, but a heisman trophy finalist who doesn't really have a position. maybe we use him for some trick plays

I'm good with every single one of these picks. I think we need to go WR in first, and Hunter would be a great addition. We would have Wayne, who is route running/possession specialist, Hilton who is our perfect slot guy, and if we could stretch the field with a 6'4 4.40 Hunter on the outside plus our 2 versatile TE's we would have a ridiculous offense. (Plus that Luck guy.. I heard he's supposed to be good or something?)

Then I also think OLB/OG is our second biggest need

I think your 1st and 4th round are very likely.  I just got done reading about Garrett Gilkey and he looks to be a very good prospect in the NFL.

1st round, justin hunter is not polished as DeAndre Hopkins, i've said this on another thread before. Look at his tape, he runs all the routes, great hands, great release. He had 18 touchdowns last year. He's another reggie wayne. If it even matters, he's graded way higher than Justin Hunter on NFL.com draft profile, and his list of strengths are 3 times as long as his weaknesses.

It seems like a lot of other Colts fans want DeAndre Hopkins. I would be fine with him if Justin Hunter is gone, but I see Hunter as a potential stud WR who cant be covered due to his size, speed, leaping ability combo. You can find a WR with the same measurables as Wayne in the 3rd round. You cant find rare WRs that often and I think Hunter is a rare WR especially if Reggie helps him refind his route running.

Your points being noted....    what if they Colts don't want to draft someone who is just like Reggie Wayne??

What if they want to draft someone with deep speed, who can take the top off a defense,  who is different than Reggie Wayne?

Then,  the choice of Hunter makes sense.....

I actually really like Tyrann Mathieu and I'd like to see us get him. However, with most "experts" predicting that he'll be taken in the second round (early in the 3rd at the latest) we'd probably have to trade back to avoid reaching and get maximum value. With our current roster situation, that doesn't look likely and there'll certainly be better options in the first.

Anyone else like this guy in spite of his ccontroversies?

We got t.y. hilton and brazill as our burners who can really get vertical, we're looking for Reggie's replacement, who can do everything you ask for right away and then be the number 1 go. Hunter reminds me too much of Stephen Hill.

DeAndre's draft profile ...strengths go on and on...

"Presents good height and length for an outside receiver, also has some lower-body strength for explosion off the line of scrimmage and in his cuts. Solid route-runner used in the short, intermediate, and deep games, who has flexibility to avoid corners in zone and the quick feet to separate on hitches, comebacks, and other cuts. Does a nice job creating separation and deceiving defensive backs with head fakes and quick moves. Will threaten the top of defenses with NFL-quality straight-line speed. Possesses strong hands in traffic, not afraid of contact downfield and can separate at the last second with an arm extension. Agile enough to quickly avoid oncoming defenders after the catch yet remain balanced to head downfield for the big gain. Does not go down without a fight, can run through arm tackle attempts from cornerbacks. Snatches throws with his hands, even those within his frame. Concentrates on the ball throughout difficult catches and extends his long arms to make a big radius. Sells double-moves well with a head fake and body lean. Very good body control to contort his body on catches and pluck the ball out of the air, keep one foot in-bounds on the sideline. Effective run blocker, usually reaches his target and gets his hands up, uses correct blocking angle to sustain; also shows some nastiness at times, capable of putting his man to the ground. Consistently productive over his time at Clemson, improving his stats each season" ...Hunter isnt as good as a run blocker either

DeAndre's nfl comparison is Roddy White, wouldnt you like having a Roddy White type of WR on your team ?

I don't know about any reciever who comes out of Tennessee. It seems like their recievers just don't pan out in the nfl. I'd say trade out of the first as long as there is good compesation, stockpile some picks and get a wide reciever next year. Right now we have other more pressing needs.

I actually dig the Klein pick. Mr. Irrelevant is a pick I actually hope is a pick unless there its a really safe bet to make the roster waiting, which is extremely unlikely. His upside as a WR is high enough to take the risk he's nothing. He's got a very Joe Jurevicius type body and I think he could be that kind of mid range chain mover that can runs with a bit of power. The kid is high character and high work ethic. The worse that happens is he doesn't make it, and that's not uncommon for Mr. Irrelevant. I think he'll work and try to do whatever is asked of him.
