Six teams - OAK, KC, DET, CHI, CAR, IND - have asked to interview Browns ST coach Chris Tabor and Cleveland has denied permission on Tabor.

If I'm not mistaken the colts would have to offer a promotion

Browns denied permission so there is no way he'll be on the Colts.

I wonder how the denied permission works. Is Tabor allowed to say he wants to take interviews and can overrule the team's decision?  Can he say he wants to leave the team (like Maalouf), and then he is free to do as he wishes?

If we're asking permission, then he's still under contract.

 

To my knowledge,  a team won't deny permission if the coach is being offered a promotion.    From position coach to coordinator. From coordinator to head coach.     A team won't say 'no' to that.

 

But if the Colts want this guy and we're willing to pay him more to make a lateral move,  ST coordinator to the same job,  then the Browns can say sorry....   he's our for 'X' number of more years.

 

That's typically how it works, though I'm sure there are some exceptions...
