Quinton Patton

Recommended Posts

According to NFL.com:

STRENGTHS

Good size for the position, has the height and length to play outside at the next level. Very good quickness off the line, gets to speed in a couple of steps and can shimmy to free himself and stick his foot in the ground to get inside position on slants. Uses a head fake to get the seam and possesses enough straight-line speed to take advantage of hesitating cornerbacks in off coverage. Stems to separate with good foot quickness on comebacks and out routes, also extends his arm to create space on short and deep routes. Catches the ball with his hands away from his body, even when tracking passes over either shoulder. Wins jump balls in the end zone and over the middle with good vertical and great concentration. Good sideline awareness to get two feet in-bounds while making the catch. Used on quick throws to take advantage of his shiftiness and surprisingly tough running, lowers his shoulder and is not easy for smaller cornerbacks to drag down after the catch. Sells routes where he knows he’s not the primary target to free up the underneath or cross-field receiver. Shows fight as a run blocker, willing to hit multiple punches to keep his man at bay and works himself into the correct blocking angle. Hustles downfield to help out fellow ballcarriers. Plays with a feisty attitude.

WEAKNESSES

Possesses good, but not elite, straight-line speed and quickness to elude pro defenders. Must prove he has the overall strength to battle veteran NFL cornerbacks in press coverage and on the sideline. Does not always find the ball downfield or come up with catchable passes when adjusting to it in the air. Inconsistent catching punts as a returner, makes some tough grabs running towards the sideline but also loses concentration on occasion.

A recommendation, if I may?

When you make a post like this,  please add, which school he's with and his position.    I was able to figure out he's a WR by the write-up,  but more information is always better than less.    Also,  height, weight, and a 40 time if available always help.

Always error on the side of too much info, rather than too little.

Otherwise,  thanks for finding this...   kid looks interesting....

Here's a bio I just found on him.   The more I see, the more I like...

Remember, the difficulty with a great kid like this is can we draft him?    Meaning,  he's not likely to be our pick in the first round,  so, without a 2nd round pick, we're looking at the 3rd or 4th round.   Will he even be available when we pick in those rounds??      Don't know yet.    Also, the question becomes,  do we want to spend a reasonably high draft pick on a WR?    We'll have other more pressing needs to fill, IMO.

Why is he being compared to Reggie Wayne?

Bucky Brooks, of NFL.com, compared him to Reggie Wayne. Also, Jonhthan Banks, 2nd best CB this year, out of Mississippi St. this year, called him the toughest WR he ever had to defend, because he's so fluid in his route-running, and he's got deceptive speed. Dunno, but he could replace Reggie in a few years.

How much production has he had? No point in getting a WR like Stephen Hill (Great Speed and Size), but no production...

Production is not a worry.

104 catches this year for better than 13.0 yds. per catch....

And last year,  79 catches for 15.0 yds. per catch.

The kid produces!

IF we can get him in the 4-5 Round, that would be awesome. I mean, can you imagine, 2-6'6 receviers in our lineup (No offense to Fleener, but he's a WR; too bad they make him block). Now that would be crazy...

This kid is not 6'6"...

He's 6'2"...  and I'm very OK with that.   Wayne is 6'0"...    so Patton has plenty of size for the position...

I just don't think he'll last that long in the draft...

But, I've been wrong plenty this year, and it's all worked out for the best,  so, who knows!?!

Sorry, my bad. I meant Brandon Coleman when I said the 6'6 WR, not Quinton Patton (unless of course,  he somehow grows an additional 4 inches before the Combine)

    • It's not that their replacements are not good.   It's the depth behind the replacements.     Also. There isn't a 3T on this team better than Buckner.  To say so is nonsense
    • There comes a point where your depth isn’t that good when you lose this many players. We aren’t talking about losing one guy or two. If Paye can’t go we are talking about half of our starters and depth. Just because you replace them doesn’t mean they are any good.
    • A high ankle sprain, even if considered mild, is a different animal than the typical 'rolled' ankle sprain, and takes at least twice as long (or more) for recovery.   Though we don't know for certain yet, this is in the realm of possibility. Besides, it may be the same ankle where he's had prior history in 2022 as well as surgery in early 2023. Taking this into consideration, a multi-week absence could be an outcome for him in the short term. An improperly healed high ankle sprain has long term ramifications to consider, as well.
    • Yes, and I'm sure the Colts will field a full rotation of D lineman, with a few having to play more snaps than before,  The replacements will be as good as the linemen that won't play....Defo, Lewis, and Paye.  That's my opinion.
    • I thought Flacco did pretty dang good. It was nice seeing passes not go over our receivers heads. AR played pretty well in the short time he was in there but I still didn’t see anything that would tell us he’s fixed his accuracy on short/intermediate throws. That being said AR is the starter unless he plays his way out or gets injured again.
