stitches 2017 FINAL mock draft

Recommended Posts

Here's my final mock draft. I tried to be realistic and not include players that would be almost certainly gone at the respective point of the draft.

Round 1, pick 15

Charles Harris, OLB, Missouri - NFL officials seem to like him more than most pundits. I like him too and he's been linked with the Colts. Matt Miller reported a month or so ago that Chris Ballard loves Harris. He's a pass-rusher with great potential - good burst off the ball and the best spin move in the draft. He also looked very good in the positional drills at the combine. His testing at the combine was not good, but he made huge strides at his pro-day, improving his 3cone time by close to half a second, and both his vertical and broad jumps by 5-6 inches.

Round 2, pick 46

Cordrea Tankersley, CB, Clemson - great press corner, sometimes he's too grabby, but he showed at the combine that he has the speed(4.40 40 yard dash) to be successful even if we have to coach him out of his grabbiness a bit. He fits pretty much all the criteria Chris Ballard has mentioned about desired cornerback traits - he's big(6'1"), he's long (over 32" arms), he has ballskils and turns the ball over(9 interceptions and 20 passes defended over the last two seasons).

Round 3, pick 80

Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo - A running back with potential to be 3-downs RB. He's the RB with one of the best balances in the draft. Runs with physicality, but also has the wiggle and cut ability to make people miss. Catches the ball from the backfield seamlessly. He's my favorite RB in the 3d-4th round range. Exceptional hands and ball security - has 1 fumble in 780 college carries. The Colts met with him at the senior bowl.

Round 4, pick 122

Shaquill Griffin, CB, UCF - One of the best performers at the combine and another corner that fits all the criteria Ballard likes for his corners - big(6'1"), long(over 32" arms), and turns the ball over(6 interceptions, 2 of them returned for TD, 26 passes defended over the last two years). He had freaky combine for his size( 4.38 40yd, 38.5" vertical, 132" broad jump). He's the only player the Colts had both top 30 visit with and a private workout with.

Round 4, pick 137

Alex Anzalone, ILB, Florida - If it wasn't for his injury concerns he would be picked much higher. He's a linebacker with good size and movement, sheds blocks well and tackles with purpose. He can also move sideline to sideline and cover on passing downs.

Round 4, pick 144

George Kittle, TE, Iowa - He was a blocking TE for Iowa but he was underutilized in their passing game. Even so... if I told you he had similar combine numbers to OJ Howard and has more TD receptions than him in his college career, would you believe me? I think there is high untapped potential here.

Round 5, pick 158

Keionta Davis, OLB, Tennessee-Chattanooga

Thoughts and comments are very welcome.

I like that you put Hunt in the 3rd because I think he will be highly sought after and getting Griffin earlier in the 4th is key.  I like it but still would probably look at O-line depth over Kittle.  I say that because we have depth there and can still grab another UDFA and be fine.  They are very high on Swoope so I see him getting a lot of action this year with Doyle.

I don't like the O-linemen at this point of the draft. I don't think they will be worth the picks they are picked with. If we need O-linemen we probably need to get one in day 1 or 2.

I agree but that pick would be at the end of day 2.  You can always find a gem in later rounds (you can also find absolute crap).  Depth would be great that is all I am saying.

I don't think much of Tankersley. In games I've watched he doesn't seem to tackle very well. He doesn't seem good at all in run support. I like your other picks though.

yeah, that's a weird thing I've noticed too... he's very physical in coverage, but avoids contact when it comes to tackling. I'm willing to work with that. Cover ability is much more important for conrers than tackling and of course you can coach him up.

I'm not saying he's the next coming of Deion Sanders, but Deion was about as * poor of a tackler as you could get, however his coverage ability was unmatched.
