A not so flattering fact

The reason why ownership excepts poor performance from its coaches and Gm's is the fact that at the end of the day, season, the franchise is worth over a billion dollars. Would you waste time and money trying to get better at whatever your company does if you are guaranteed to stay in business and make tons of money despite your problems.

People would have to stay home and not buy merchandise for 10 years to make the team move to another sucker city.

Ownership has to want to be great. Business people in the hotels and downtown area don't miss a beat when half the fans in the stands are not wearing blue. Irsay is old and no longer a proud owner with something to prove. His daughters will inherit the team and will probably sell and build a legacy for their children with another last name.

The problem with this analysis is that all owners are required to spend basically all of the money required under the salary cap with a certain small amount left over for player moves so you cannot be cheap and have a low payroll to save money. All NFL owners are required to spend although it is based on a certain profit that they will receive.  The NFL based on current rules comes down to QB play. In order to compete you have to have a good QB. The only way to do that is to draft a  QB until you hit on a good player. Signing retreads usually does not work especially long term and Ballard got stuck in that mode.

I think Bradley is gone no matter what happens after this season. You can't deliver a bottom 3rd defense 3 years in a row and not get fired.

IF AR doesn't work out by the end of 2025 I think it'll be a complete overhaul of the team and if Irsay doesn't hand over the keys to the building his daughters will at the very least have a significant say in what happens I believe.

This is all down to AR though. If he works out (and I still think he could) we'll get more of Ballard, unfortunately.

Well Ballard has a below 500 record and has been around for 8 years, lol!! So we may get Gus for another 5, hahaha??

You all show your  NFL IQ.  Till the season is wrapped up absolutely there is a chance. Can they do it is the question.

Yes I do show it,good, great teams don't need or rely on chances. They rarely lose to bad teams. They win and move forward. And rarely talk about next year's draft, every game, every week.

I think it’s hard for fans to get behind this regime because we don’t see improvement over time. It’s the same song and dance every year. That’s hard to get behind when you’re not winning.

Exactly,Peyton 13 years,I ring for example.Not good for the 2nd goat.Terrible!

It's the fans that talk about next draft every game and weekly, not the players.

It's tough to win a SB, I could sling that narrative and say he did get us 2 SB's and went 109-35 from 2002-2010 and at least we did win one which Marino and Jim Kelly never did.

Exactly! Look at that record... We were a threat to win it all every season unfortunately Peyton was in the midst of the Patriot dynasty while the Steelers and Big Ben also lurked around in that time frame. Between those three teams it was must see tv!! Think of all the great teams and players that had no shot in basketball once Jordan started winning titles.

This franchise has fallen to point that most Ballard fans make every excuse for a subpar gm who is nothing more than a glorified scout who consistently doubles down on his mid to low tier draft picks that lack top tier talent. No longer are the Colts prime time players nor have they been contenders the bulk of Ballard's sub .500 eight yr run.

Hard fought wins against bottom feeding teams are now the reason for optimism and gloat. Good teams stack wins against inferior talent while irrelevant ones find themselves listed as underdogs against awful WINLESS ones like our Colts vs Jags this season. I guess the brightside is that we get to play the Titans and Will Levis twice a season so it gives Ballard's bottom ranked defense a chance to look at least average BUT if Will gets benched all bets are off. As usual though "In Ballard we trust!"

I just want to see an aggressive defense that teams fear!

Move Buckner, Davis, Stewart to three down line man in a 3-4. Move Paye and Latu and to outside linebacker and have Speed and Franklin play inside. I think we can keep Cross as he is flourishing and Blackmon can also stay. Now spend the next 2 first picks on outside corner or hunt in free agency.  Paye has no bend and  I think he could play standing up. Latu reminds me of Watt in Pittsburgh.

I will end this once and for all. Let us say our GM was Grigson and not Ballard during this current lack of success over the last 8 years. Would people still be making excuses for his below 500 record? Just a thought. I get it. Ballard seems like a nice guy and people and media around here seem to love him. I have been out on him for years. Even if Richardson proves he is the guy at the end of the year.  I really dont see what value Ballard brings to the table. This defense is his creation and it needs to take a new direction and new leadership in its construction. Sure, he has had success drafting on the offensive side of the ball but his drafting on defense has actually been horrendous if you look at it objectively. If you were to look at his most successful acquisitions on defense, excluding Leonard. They have been Buckner,  Moore and Stewart a late pick. Thats quite disturbing. All of his early picks have not amounted to anything and you could even throw in Speed and Franklin but once again, they are late picks.  Cross is showing promise but it is early. In order for any defense and/or offense to  successful, you have to hit on some of those early picks. They are the guys that are graded the highest and that is how you build your team.  If Richardson is able to stay healthy and show he is that guy. This team still needs to address the defense in a big way at the end of the year. Fire Gus and scrap this defensive scheme. From what I recall about Ballard, he is suppose to have expertise in building this defense from his days with the Bears and I guess the Chiefs.  He has been a failure in this respect, so I am in favor of retaining Steichen, as I believe he is a wizard and will improve in making coaching decisions. Ballard has had his day and time to move on no matter what happens on the offensive side of the ball. Take the defense in a totally different direction. I want to see a coach who will come in and construct the defense based on the players. When Ballard came in, he scrapped the scheme and drafted players to fit his scheme and did the opposite of what I think a good GM does.
