Mets win and advance, the only home team to win in this Wild Card round was my Padres. 3 of the 4 series ended in 2 game sweeps, the same thing happened in 2022 when the 3 game Wild Card format first  began, and oddly enough, the Mets were also involved in a deciding Game 3 that year as well. Last season, all 4 of the Wild Card series were 2 game sweeps.

Howie Rose has some of the greatest calls. Years ago, the NY Rangers won a series and Rose had a memorable call of the winning shot. I don't follow hockey and I still remember it. It happened at least 25 years ago.

He's got more hits, plate appearances and a few other stats than anyone who has ever played the game. He belongs in Cooperstown but they were never going to let him in to enjoy it while he was alive but now that he's not anymore, there is no real justification for continuing to keep him out.

He'll never sign a picture or memorabilia  with the initials "HOF" after his name like others do but we'll see if MLB does the right thing now, I think they'll announce it after the World Series is finished.

I think I heard that he said he doesn't want to be inducted after he dies.

I personally don't think they should now for their own peace of mind yet denying him of the honor while living.

He did what was well known NOT ALLOWED by everyone and he paid the penalty for it.

Its ironic AND Hypocritical now that MLB's beloved Face of the Sport is someone that lost millions of dollars gambling and swept it under the rug and had his interpreter and best friend take the fall.

MLB is becoming more and more like the other sports..... But shouldn't be a surprise as they are in the same bed with networks/advertisers as the NBA & NFL.

I hope Pete Roses wishes are honored and he is not inducted.

With the Astro's & Orioles both being eliminated, the Yankees road to the World Series is paved in gold.

But they still need to play good baseball and have weaknesses that weren't sufficiently addressed at Trade Deadline.

Defense already a question mark and if Rizzo can't play it definitely takes a hit.

Then there's the Bullpen, especially without a shut down closer.

And timely hitting which is even more vulnerable to LH pitching.

If they play at the level they can they should overcome the Royals and Cleveland/Detroit.

In the NL its hard to go against the Dodgers, but their starting pitching is a weakness and I think the Padres are more complete of a team. And the Phillies were the best team much of the season.

I'm thinking the NL overcomes the AL representative.....but hopefully not if its my Yankees..

Wheeler was dominant, giving up only 1 hit to the Mets in 7 innings. Going to the 8th inning, the Phillies were leading 1-0. The Mets scored 5 runs in the 8th against Phillies relievers. They scored another run in the 9th. The Mets won 6-2.

In a 5 game series, getting Game 1 on the road is huge. Mets now have an 80% chance to win the series.

Don't worry. The Phillies have a very good team. I'm almost shocked that the Mets relievers were able to limit the Phillies to 2 runs all game. They are loaded. I wanted the Mets to extend Wheeler when we had him. Wheeler was drafted by the Giants, but the Mets traded for him while he was in the Giants farm system. We should have extended him.

We had a rough start to our series in LA, took the lead early but our  usually brilliant Manager made some questionable decisions like pitching to Shohei Ohtani with 1st base open and 2 runners on, and intentionally walking Mookie Betts to load the bases, while he already had 2 strikes in the at-bat. Both of these decisions preceeded crooked numbers being put up by the Dodgers, who overcame 2 run deficits twice to win Game 1 by 2 runs.

My Sunday went the same as yours, watching the Colts lose a close one, and then watching my Padres win a game that they needed to. Your game had higher drama late, while mine was basically over at the midway point and after some shenanigans from the Dodgers crowd, the Padres poured it on late and made a Max Muncy solo homerun in the 9th totally meaningless to the outcome, it made LA only lose by 8 runs instead of 9!

We had a wild one in San Diego last night that turned into a pitching duel as the Padres took Game 3. Mookie Betts hit a leadoff home run, but the Padres batted around against Walker Buehler and put up 6 runs in the 2nd inning. The next inning, Michael King gave up a grand slam to Teoscar Hernández and the lead was down to 1 - both starters exited the game after 5 innings, and the bullpens took over and there was no more scoring on the evening. The new additions acquired mid season like reliever Jason Adam & former Marlins closer Tanner Scott were both nails, as was Jeremiah Estrada who we claimed off waivers from the Cubs last year.

From OptaStats: The Padres are the 1st team to ever win a postseason game when allowing a grand slam, scoring in just 1 inning and not scoring after the 2nd inning.

The Mets know they're playing in Southern California on Sunday, on Friday night they'll find out exactly where, San Diego or Los Angeles.

Glad to see you posting. I cannot recall if it was you who lives/lived near Port St. Lucie. I used to go there for Mets Spring training games about 20 years ago. I heard there were some destructive tornadoes that hit the town today. I hope everyone is safe.

I don't want to play either the Dodgers or Padres. They are tough.

I live in Stuart, just north of Port St Lucie. I've been to a few Mets minor league games in PSL, that's a nice little stadium and very affordable.

Right now I'm getting alot of wind, but oddly no rain. St Lucie County did suffer some casualties today, mostly from tornadoes.

My Padres' great season has ended with a whimper, with back-to-back shutout losses and having  been held scoreless for 24 consecutive innings, and counting. Yu Darvish started the game and was good, only giving up 3 hits in 6 & 2/3rds innings, but 2 of them were solo homeruns and with our offense in hibernation, that was more than enough.

The way this season concluded was a bigger choke than the 2021 season where after a 66-49 start, we went 13-34 down the stretch and were eliminated from playoff contention in the last week of September. We made the playoffs this season and won in the Wild Card round, and we had the Dodgers down 2 games to 1 in a best of 5 with 2 chances to win & advance, and we blew the both of them and that's gonna hurt for a long time.

With that said, GO METS!

That would definitely happen if Skubal could pitch everyday but he can't so a world series will be difficult for them. He's on the mound today vs Cleveland in GM 5.....winner faces my Yankees in ALCS.

Sorry to see that. I was hoping the Padres would advance. I don't like seeing the same teams in the playoffs every year. It seems that the Dodgers have been in the playoffs every year since 2014 or so.

I liked the Padres but Cease let them down(twice). They had a big advantage you would think with him on the mound and the Dodgers using the bullpen for 9 innings but got shutout and Cease was disappointing.

Last nights game was expected and I had the Dodgers.

I think MLB is going to get their Dream Matchup of Judge vs Ohtani  in WS.

Rumors are Ohtani is working on coming out of the bullpen. I can just picture Ohtani facing Judge in the 9tn inning in game 7 with everything on the line!!!

I'm not a fan of that. That is probably why I did not follow the Mets as much the last few years. I don't like buying championships. I am very much of the Ballard philosophy. Draft well, develop your draft picks and undrafted free agents, and sign a few free agents from other teams here and there. I don't want the top players at their positions unless they come from our farm system or we traded for them. I like this Mets team. There are not many high-priced free agents like Kershaw and Verlander.

I think I like the way the Padres built their team with guys from their farm. I know they signed Machado a few years ago to complement their your guys. I'm ok with that. I don't like how the Dodgers build their team.

Cease struggled, but he didn't get much run support, especially in his 2nd start on short rest. Michael King gave up 2 homeruns, the 2nd of which was a grand slam but he had that 1 big inning in which we scored 6 runs and that was enough for him to get the win. The offense totally dissolved for the past few games, it's hard to imagine back-to-back-to-back shutout losses, but we're at 24 consecutive scoreless innings and counting, so if we don't score for the first 3 innings on Opening Day next season, we'll be at 27 in a row and we'd have to be challenging some record for offensive futility.

I've kinda wondered about Ohtani pitching for the Dodgers, and whether or not they'd really want him to, considering their massive financial investment in him. For most of his career he was a dual threat, but that got him hurt alot and this season, total DH and he stayed healthy all year and put up historic numbers. If he were to return to the mound as a starting pitcher, his offense would definitely drop off but I could see him coming out of the bullpen in a pinch to try to get a certain batter or 2 but with the other arms they have in their pen that just froze out the Padres, why would he need to?

I agree, with the bullpen the dodgers have they probably wouldn't need to risk him in relief...... except it would be great theatrics and more for the Talking Heads to say he's the greatest ever lol.

About the Padres, you can't win if you don't score! So it wouldn't have mattered how good Cease pitched anyway.

It was a tough loss for Padre fans, I felt the winner between them and dodgers would probably go on to win the WS. And going scoreless in 2 games when it counted most PLUS your hated rivals eliminating them.

I don't  know about impending FA's but they have a strong team and should be strong contenders again next year.

Not a expert on the Padres but they certainly brought players from outside organizations.

Certainly Machado, Araez who won batting title, a half dozen players from Yankees for Soto who they got from Washington, SP King, C Higashioka, RP Taylor from Marlins, Bogarts, I think from Boston,  etc.... In fact I thought I heard every player except for a few came from elsewhere??? @Lancer1 I'm sure knows them better than I do.

Regardless, Padres and Dodgers and my Yanks are excellent teams with lots of talent and bring lots of enjoyment to their fans and cities and I credit their  organizations for doing that.

I guess you and I differ on team construction as I think Ballard/Irsay have let colt fans down year after year by going on the thrifty way of making up a roster. The Colts are a sub .500 team the last decade and their fans have seen other mostly unsuccessful organizations like the Bills, Bengals, Lions, Rams, etc.... have major post season success and so many other teams now in better position going forward than Colts with good Franchise QBs while the Colts have struggled the past decade and  STILL HAVE A CLOUDY FUTURE with their GM & the QB they drafted(who I like).

If your a Met fan my advice is enjoy their playoff run and good luck vs Dodgers..... I wouldn't mind a sub way series. :cheer2:

You are correct, the majority of the Padres team came from other organizations - we traded for Fernando Tatis Jr while he was just 17, and in the White Sox organization. When we traded Juan Soto to the Yankees, we got back Michael King, Kyle Higashioka, Randy Vasquez and another player who we traded for Dylan Cease. We got Xander Bogaerts from Boston last year, this May we traded with the Marlins for Luis Arraez, and then again in July for their closer Tanner Scott & another relief pitcher. Even in 2022 when we went to the NLCS, we had traded for closer Josh Hader, of course Soto, and several others. The Padres used to be real cheap, and whenever one of their homegrown star players were approaching free agency, we would trade them away vice paying them fair market value. That kinda changed in 2017 when they signed Eric Hosmer as a free agent for big money, but the expectations for the team & franchise changed in 2019 when we signed Manny Machado to a 10 year, $300 million free agent contract. That was when we really started expecting to win.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

My props to them for putting winning a higher priority than before.

To me, it doesn't matter how organizations try to win, as long as they do try and give their fans a product worthy of their support.

On the package we gave to Padres for Soto. It was a trade that worked for both teams, maybe it will be better for the Padres in the long run if Yankees can't resign Soto.

I didn't know King had such good stuff, Wow!

But I knew that C Higashioka was under rated and could hit some with some pop and he caught German's no-no.

Your GM really did a good job.
